They're Grumpy Old Men [Side A]. And since they're played by famed screen odd couple Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau, they're also Funny Old Men. The wit hits the fan as the two play Minnesota ice-fishing pals whose crusty friendship grows hilariously icier as they vie for an attractive widow (Ann-Margret). Also in the cast are Daryl Hannah, Kevin Pollak, Ossie Davis and an outrageously randy Burgess Meredith. The two leads grab their fishing rods to reel in another comic whopper in the sequel Grumpier Old Men [Side B]. Most of the original cast returns, and Sophia Loren plays the vivacious newcomer who wants to turn the beloved bait shop into a chichi ristorante. Of course, in this part of the Land of 1000 Lakes, that means war! Enjoy. And, yes, this is the movie with the "man-sized manicotti" outtakes!Format: DVD MOVIE

"[1] ...a great starting point for those unfamiliar with Mathau and Lemmon...  David Nusair, Reel Film Reviews
"[2] It is fresh, it has an appealing cast...  Doug Pratt, DVDLaser.com
"[1] ...held together by the chemistry of the cast.  Ken Hanke, Mountain Xpress
"[2] ...sense of familiarity and nostalgia...  Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle

Editor's Note
Includes the two great movies which continue the bickery friendship begun with "The Odd Couple." GRUMPY OLD MEN: Two crusty, feuding neighbors vie over the affections of a beautiful woman who moves in on their street. GRUMPIER OLD MEN: This sequel to 1993's "Grumpy Old Men" finds the crochety seniors still full of venom for each other, even when a gorgeous Italian woman moves in and threatens to turn their local bait store into a restaurant.

Professional Reviews

The DVD Report 9 of 10
[1] One of the most superb comedies ever filmed, "Grumpy Old Men" showcases the multidimensional talents of two of Hollywood's most accomplished actors, Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. With the additional brilliant comic performance of Burgess Meredith, "Grumpy Old Men" transforms from a gem of a picture into one of the funniest movies ever made. - Britt Gillette

Chicago Sun-Times 7 of 10
[2] "Grumpier Old Men" takes us back to Wabasha, Minn., which I think of as Grumpyville because most of the residents appear to be grumpy old men, just as most of the residents of Mickeyville are mice. The two leading local grumps are John and Max (Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau), who are neighbors in houses so close that when the blinds are up (as they usually are), they can not only eavesdrop on each other but also even videotape what's happening next door..."Grumpier Old Men" is not terrifically compelling, although it is probably impossible not to enjoy Matthau and Lemmon acting together. - Roger Ebert
