Hauppauge WINTV-HVR-2250 Dual TV Tuner/Encoder Media Center Kit - 1213 - Supports Windows 7
|The WinTV-HVR-2250 has two tuners for watching one TV program while recording another: with the built-in dual tuners, you can either watch one channel while recording another or you can record two channels at once. |
Create your own personal Digital Video Recorder! Record analog cable TV shows to your PC's hard disk with our built-in high quality MPEG-2 hardware encoder. You can also record high definition digital ATSC and clear QAM digital cable TV to disk in the original digital quality. Use the WinTV-Scheduler to schedule the recordings of your favorite analog or digital TV programs. Play the recordings back to your PC screen at any time.
Vista Media Center compatible: The Microsoft Media Center application supports two TV tuners. Use the Media Center scheduler to schedule your TV recordings. And WinTV-HVR-2250 has Windows Vista Premium certification.
Clear QAM TV channels are unencrypted digital TV channels broadcast by your local cable operator. Many cable operators in North America are transmitting the high definition ATSC channels on their cable networks. They also broadcast the basic cable channels in using clear QAM. You can use the WinTV v6 application to watch and record these channels. Note: currently Media Center cannot be used for clear QAM digital TV.
ATSC digital TV is the over-the-air HD digital TV for North America. ATSC digital TV typically requires an antenna for reception, and is currently broadcast in 200 cities, with over 1500 TV stations. ATSC broadcasts range in resolution from standard definition up to the high definition 1080i format. The WinTV-HVR can be used to watch and record all ATSC formats. Note: ATSC digital TV is NOT digital cable TV or digital satellite TV. ATSC is digital "over-the-air" TV.
ATSC digital TV brings you sharper pictures and enriches your PC’s multimedia experience with near CD quality sound. WinTV-HVR’s ATSC digital TV tuner adds great features to your TV viewing: high definition TV reception, automatic identification of channel names plus records high-definition digital TV programs to your PC’s hard disk in an MPEG-2 format without any loss in quality.
Technically speaking: WinTV-HVR-2250 is a PCI Express X1 board based on the NXP 7164 bus interface chip. The WinTV-HVR-2250 contains two tuners with a built-in TV splitter. There is one cable TV or TV antenna connector which is split, providing a video source for both tuners. For ATSC and QAM digital TV, all 18 ATSC formats including 1080i can be watched or recorded to disk as a MPEG-2 Program Stream. The NXP 7164 contains two highly integrated MPEG-1/2 hardware encoders for recording analog cable TV to disk. The playback of the recorded ATSC and QAM digital TV and MPEG-2 encoded analog programs are done through a software MPEG-2 player.
Encode HDTV also!1/29/2014
Does the job.
I like it10/6/2010
Works good with Windows 7 and MCE. At first I had a problem with the remote working. I emailed tech support and they had good response. You have to really push that connector for the remote in hard. Harder than I felt was right. Other than that installation was easy and the results are very good.
Works well with BeyondTV8/28/2010
I own 5 of these running in 3 different multi-tuner HTPC setups and found them to be the best around. Sensitivity and front end filtering are excellent. Low processor power requirements; runs cool. For me, the internal splitter is ideal but this limits you to the same signal source for both tuners. Clear QAM works well but setup can be a bit intimidating for a novice. Analog reception is clean and sharp. A bit quirky with S3 sleep mode on some AMD motherboards (sometimes it stays in D3). Be aware that you can't wake from S3 sleep with the remote as you can do with a USB remote. A bit pricey but probably worth it in the long run.
2250 TV Tuner with Remote12/24/2009
Product works well including remote with Windows Media Center. All items in box per advertisements and box graphics. Followed product instructions to set unit up without problems on a Win7 machine. CPU usage is much lower than USB-Type Tuners (this device replaced a USB Tuner) that require the main CPU to process the video signal. Changing channels is much quicker with this unit than the USB Tuner. Very nice Card!
Don't buy the Media Center Kit7/5/2009
As the title reads don't but the kit. You won't get what they promise. They do a bait and switch with the remote control receiver. The thing they have switched to does not work. Hauppauge will not help you in any way. They won't respond to your emails. On the phone they tell you we saved money. Go to our website to figure out how to make it work, where the instructions show what they have in their sale add not what is in their box. The remote control does not work. Buy.com only tells me to send it back. Hmmm cost me shipping and gas money, time and loss of TV service. I guess I have to take the $20 hit. Thanks for the great customer service Buy.com. The actual tv receiver card works great. So just buy the standalone card not the kit. Works great with both BeyondTV 4.9 and Windows 7 RC 64 bit Media Center. Using Over the Air (OTA) antenna. It shows up in both applications as 2 tuners.
Waste of Money!6/5/2009
Installed this dual tuner 2250 on my new Vista 64 machine and plug it into my Comcast cable line. Picture quality was poor under Windows Media Center. Tech guy told me that's because my cable company must be broadcasting in Analog. I said, 'well I thought it was also an Analog tuner', and he said you will never get as good reception as you would with a regular tv. So, I paid $130 for a card that doesn't get as good reception as my 20 year old tv! Tried it under WinTv and only slightly better reception. However, at least WinTv picks up the Clear QAM channels, which looked good. However, changing channels between the Clear QAM stations takes a long time to switch, like 5-7 seconds. Don't waste your money if you are trying to replace a cable tv.
Dual Tuner is great!3/19/2009
I received this card and set it up on my Vista x64 computer with no problems. Drivers were a breeze to install. It works great with Media Center--no need to install the Hauppauge software. The dual tuner is a must have--there are many times that two programs I enjoy are playing at the same time, and this allows me to record them both. The picture quality is great, and it takes very little CPU usage. I thought the cost was high, but wanted to take a gamble on the dual tuner card. I'm REALLY glad I did!!
Waste of Money3/16/2009
This product does not perform as advertised. It will not let you record one show while watching another. It is installed in an almost new Dell XPS 64 bit system with 8GB of ram. The computer must be restarted after using the media center because it appears there is a conflict that causes the computer to lock up. The computer was not doing that before installation of the tuner and software. This product is a total disappointment and waste of money. Hauppauge's tech support was of no help. Do not buy this tuner.
Great TV Tuner1/27/2009
This card is great, it's got enough processing power and memory on-board to take care of receiving and encoding without loading down the CPU, it runs cool and is fairly power efficient, it lets you record two shows at once and only requires one coax-in cable. AWESOME! Can fit in full-height or half-height PCI-express slot (has an included bracket to put it in half-height cases. The recording quality is SUPERB! With my prior TV Tuner I had pixelization of the video and "hiccups" of the audio when recording digital TV, with this one that rarely ever happens. Very happy with this card!
Rated this tuner slightly above average due to the lack of instructions and poor software. Haven’t been able to get the QAM tuners to work with FIOS but this may not be a fault of the WinTV 2250. Hauppauge on-line support for this card is non-existent, you would think I’m the only person on the planet trying to use the card with FIOS. On the up side the picture is very clear and it seems to work well with Window Media Center. Works well with Vista.
