|The WinTV-HVR-2250 has two tuners for watching one TV program while recording another: with the built-in dual tuners, you can either watch one channel while recording another or you can record two channels at once. |
Create your own personal Digital Video Recorder! Record analog cable TV shows to your PC's hard disk with our built-in high quality MPEG-2 hardware encoder. You can also record high definition digital ATSC and clear QAM digital cable TV to disk in the original digital quality.
Vista Media Center compatible: The Microsoft Media Center application supports two TV tuners. Use the Media Center scheduler to schedule your TV recordings. And WinTV-HVR-2250 has Windows Vista Premium certification.
Clear QAM TV channels are unencrypted digital TV channels broadcast by your local cable operator. Many cable operators in North America are transmitting the high definition ATSC channels on their cable networks. They also broadcast the basic cable channels in using clear QAM.
ATSC digital TV is the over-the-air HD digital TV for North America. ATSC digital TV typically requires an antenna for reception, and is currently broadcast in 200 cities, with over 1500 TV stations. ATSC broadcasts range in resolution from standard definition up to the high definition 1080i format. The WinTV-HVR can be used to watch and record all ATSC formats. Note: ATSC digital TV is NOT digital cable TV or digital satellite TV. ATSC is digital "over-the-air" TV.
ATSC digital TV brings you sharper pictures and enriches your PC’s multimedia experience with near CD quality sound. WinTV-HVR’s ATSC digital TV tuner adds great features to your TV viewing: high definition TV reception, automatic identification of channel names plus records high-definition digital TV programs to your PC’s hard disk in an MPEG-2 format without any loss in quality.
Technically speaking: WinTV-HVR-2250 is a PCI Express X1 board based on the NXP 7164 bus interface chip. The WinTV-HVR-2250 contains two tuners with a built-in TV splitter. There is one cable TV or TV antenna connector which is split, providing a video source for both tuners. For ATSC and QAM digital TV, all 18 ATSC formats including 1080i can be watched or recorded to disk as a MPEG-2 Program Stream. The NXP 7164 contains two highly integrated MPEG-1/2 hardware encoders for recording analog cable TV to disk. The playback of the recorded ATSC and QAM digital TV and MPEG-2 encoded analog programs are done through a software MPEG-2 player.
Customer Reviews of Hauppauge WINTV-HVR-2250 Dual TV Tuner/Encoder - White Box
Great tuner! Software upgrades tricky.4/9/2012
Best tuner I've ever used. Only issue I had is when I went from XP to SEVEN and I needed to locate my original CD to upgrade their software. Fortunately I located the disk but was afraid I was going to need to purchase a CD from their site. Nevertheless, I got it upgraded and it works great! My cable system went full digital and all I needed to do is rescan the channels and I get better resolution on my PC using a Hanspree 23" than on my 35" JVC tube TV. Purchased over 2 years ago and still going strong. Do not be afraid to click that 'buy' button, just keep your original CD handy when they upgrade the software.
Best NTSC Dual Tuner For the Money12/14/2011
Best Dual Tuner for the money, and Free LowProfile Bracket. WinTV Program isnt much useful other than using the RCA inputs. No problems getting it to work with Windows Media Center.
Excellent TV Tuner Card6/8/2010
* Excellent card. * Works out-of-the-box in Windows XP MCE (Media Center Edition), Windows Vista MCE, and Windows 7 Ultimate. * Excellent video quality. * Great performance while using both tuners. * Comes with a low-profile bracket. * Great value compared to other cards. (Only one other dual-tuner card worked for me, but it didn't come with a low-profile bracket.)
Works great wih Windows 7 Media Center1/2/2010
The Windows 7 drivers on the CD did not work on my PC. The drivers would "install" but they could not find the card. Downloading the latest Windows 7 drivers from the Hauppage web site fixed that problem and then it was all smooth sailing. Windows 7 Media Center sees this card as 2 analog tuners and 2 digital tuners, and will automatically use whichever one is required to tune the station you select. So it can tune 2 analog stations, 2 digital stations, or 1 analog and 1 digital at the same time and dynamically switch between them. Very cool.
Works great with Windows 7 Media Center using BOTH tuners to record HD.
Wish FM worked with MCE4/20/2009
Good product. Great HDTV reception. My only gripe is FM doesn't work with MCE when the analog tuners are not setup to be used (I'm using both as DTV).
Easy to use with Windows MCE2/23/2009
I am not a egghead or hardware person, but I found this very easy to install both physically and adding drivers. I just popped out my old analog card, popped this bad boy in and rebooted. Install drivers of the cd, go to the website to download updates, follow the instructions to config Media Center and I was literally recording HD over-the-air (via antennae) programming all in less than 20 minutes. One caveat, I highly recommend getting a nice antennae. I have one that you plug into the wall for a boost, very much worth it for better all around signal reception.
Outstanding Value for the Price1/17/2009
Easy to install, up and running in less than 15 min. Only negative is the software could be better, but you can not find a better deal on this hardward.
Nice Dual Tuner Card1/17/2009
Vista 32 likes this card. Installed flawlessly. Runs much cooler than other 2-tuner PCI-e card. Plays well with BeyondTV.
