Author Bio
Cynthia Rylant
Multifaceted author Cynthia Rylant is the creator of picture books, poetry, short stories, and novels. Raised primarily in West Virginia by both her mother and her maternal grandparents, Rylant had a rustic but happy childhood. Her first book, WHEN I WAS YOUNG IN THE MOUNTAINS, is a reflection of her childhood and was named a Caldecott Honor Book. Her 1985 work, THE RELATIVES CAME, also received that honor. In addition to these picture books, Rylant is well known for her easy-reader series that focuses on the adventures of a boy named Henry and his lovable dog, Mudge. Her young adult novel A FINE WHITE DUST was named a Newbery Honor Book in 1987.
