A cold and damp winter wind played around the windows of the building, a breeze not strong enough to rattle the still-pristine thermopane glass, but potent enough to tweak an occasional whistle from an art-deco protrusion, whistles that now and then came low enough to sound almost like moans. (from the first line)
The Net Force computer security agency goes into action when someone with access to highly classified information begins to post top-secret data on the Internet, while, at the same time, a lethal computer virus is wreaking havoc on the federal financial systems. Original. *Author: Clancy, Tom *Series Title: Tom Clancys Net Force *Publication Date: 1999/10/01 *Binding Type: Paperback *Language: English *Depth: 1.00 *Width: 4.25 *Height: 6.75
From the Publisher:
From the creators of Op-Center comes a different kind of law enforcement--an elite security agency to enforce laws that govern computer control in the year 2010. The operatives must hunt a hacker who has unleashed a virus that throws the federal financial systems into chaos.
Annotation:
The year is 2010, and, as predicted, computers have taken over as the world's financial and political leaders. In the hopes of managing progress, Congress has created a watch dog computer security agency within the FBI called Net Force. Alex Michaels is its fearless leader. When a vicious computer hacker begins posting classified information, outing government spies and the progress of drug cartels on the Internet, Alex must stop a string of murders and defend the very existence of Net Force to a disgruntled Senate committee. This second book in the Net Force series is also the subject of an ABC television miniseries.
Author Bio
Tom Clancy
An insurance executive well into his late 30s, Tom Clancy first hit fame and fortune with the spy thriller "The Hunt for Red October", the sales of which soared when President Ronald Reagan called it a personal favorite. Though Clancy was never a military man himself, due to poor eyesight, he closely studied declassified military documents and used the technical information he gleaned from them to write his best-selling thrillers. Most of Clancy's novels feature ex-marine Jack Ryan, an intelligence analyst working with the CIA. Often the reluctant hero, Ryan battles foes such as international terrorists and powerful drug lords, often finding himself deeply immersed in the high-stakes world of espionage.
