From the Publisher:
After a terrorist attack in Atlanta kills 500,000 people and causes the dead to half-possess many of the survivors, Finn Darby must surmount his own ghostly "Hitcher"--his abusive, deceased grandfather--if he is going to find a way to send the dead back to where they came from. By the Hugo Award-winning author of Soft Apocalypse.
Annotation:
Will McIntosh brings an interesting spin to the life-after-death meme with his novel HITCHERS. About two years earlier, Finn Darby's grandfather and wife died on the same day. His grandfather had been a mean-spirited but successful comics artist, but Finn's wife had died unexpectedly and far too young. As an attempt to move forward, deal with his grief, and, yes, capitalize on his grandfather's legacy, Finn decides to resuscitate the old man's comic strip. Things are going well until a strange terrorist attack on Atlanta leaves citizens--Finn included--with bizarre symptoms and an all-new, extra-close relationship with the dead. In fact, the dead can now inhabit a living person's body. This presents Finn with a dilemma: On the one hand, Finn's abusive grandfather comes to harass Finn once again; on the flip side, Finn sees an opportunity to get his dead wife back.

Praise

"This is a charming novel, with well-drawn characters, a smartly constructed plot, and some real drama and emotion. Horror and sf-fantasy fans shouldn't miss it." (starred review) - David Pitts 02/01/2012

"McIntosh's conception of what happens to people after death is unusual, vividly drawn, and utterly chilling." - Tasha Robinson 02/08/2012
