"Hope's Edge" follows the author of the classic "Diet for a Small Planet" and her daughter as they travel the world, discovering practical visionaries who are making a difference in world hunger, sometimes one village at a time.
From the Publisher:
Hope's Edge follows the author of the classic Diet for a Small Planet and her daughter as they travel the world, discovering practical visionaries who are making a difference in world hunger, sometimes one village at a time.

Thirty years ago, Frances Moore Lappé started a revolution in the way Americans think about food and hunger. Now Frances and her daughter, Anna, pick up where Diet for a Small Planet left off. Together they set out on an around-the-world journey to explore the greatest challenges we face in the new millennium. Traveling to Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Europe, they discovered answers to one of the most urgent issues of our time: whether we can transcend the rampant consumerism and capitalism to find the paths that each of us can follow to heal our lives as well as the planet.

Featuring nearly seventy recipes from celebrated vegetarian culinary pioneers-including Alice Waters, Mollie Katzen, Laurel Robertson, Nora Pouillon, and Anna Thomas-Hope's Edge highlights true trailblazers engaged in social, environmental, and economic transformations.
The author of the acclaimed classic DIET FOR A SMALL PLANET travels with her daughter through five continents where they encounter visionaries in social, environmental, and consumer awareness and activism. The authors reshape the terms of the debate on the urgent problem of world hunger and the resources of the planet. Included are 70 vegetarian recipes from Mollie Katzen, Anna Thomas, Laurel Robertson, and others.
Author Bio
Frances Moore Lappe
If anyone embodies the "?think globally, act locally" philosophy of the environmental movement, it is Frances Moore Lappé, who has been in the forefront of the discussion since the publication of her groundbreaking classic, DIET FOR A SMALL PLANET in 1971. Lappe has worked tirelessly to promote a greater awareness of the key issues of democracy--poverty, food distribution, and corporate greed. Through the Small Planet Institute, she and her colleagues have assiduously promoted new ideas and discussion, generated money, and established activities to make the world a better place. Lappé has received speaking engagements from numerous universities and written many articles in both the print media and on websites such as AlterNet and the Huffington Post. In 2008, her book GETTING A GRIP addressed the need to "fight our core assumptions" about power and politics, and to take local actions for a better world.
