An American defense contractor goes to Iran to sell missile technology, and the CIA knows all about it thanks to a spy in Tehran. But the story is leaked to an ambitious journalist and the spy is executed. DeMarco and the CIA aren''t the only ones looking for the source of the leak.
Like the best James Bond movies, Mike Lawson populates his contemporary spy novel, HOUSE JUSTICE, with a dense cast of witty and notable characters, almost as numerable as the possible conspiracies that lurk in every dark corner. Each one, whether a major or minor player, seems wrought with care and intelligence, which, together with the tight plotting, makes this thriller a stand-out. When Speaker of the House John Fitzpatrick Mahoney finds out that a journalist he had an affair with nearly two decades ago has been put in jail for involvement in the outing of a CIA spy, he immediately contacts Joe DeMarco. DeMarco needs to quickly and quietly figure out who was the journalist's source of information (the CIA believes there was a leak from within congress). Easier said than done--it soon becomes apparent that FBI agents, spies, Russian mobsters, eccentric millionaires, greedy politicians, and ruthless assassins are all mixed up in this Byzantine affair.

"Lawson's tight, high-energy prose drives a plot with more turns than the Burma Road....The dialogue is sharp, cynical, and often funny, but the book succeeds because of its characters....A superb example of the post-cold war espionage novel." (starred review) - Thomas Gaughan 05/01/2010

"The nice thing about Mike Lawson's Washington thrillers is that nobody is high-minded....Lawson delights in subverting even the most banal genre conventions...." - Marilyn Stasio 07/04/2010

"[A] devilishly intricate, whirlwind tale, wittily told, that delivers a sobering message." 06/01/2010
