A really well told love story

by Steve on 12/4/2006

I started watching this sitcom from the very beginning and was hooked early on. This show is extremely funny, and I would not hesitate to compare it to early Friends. It's that good. It really connects with the recently graduated from college crowd. Those that are learning to transition from college into being responsible contributing adults. The only trouble I see with the show is that the writers have pigeon-holed themselves with the story a bit, so it'll be interesting to see how they keep the series alive and fresh. This DVD set is definitely on my Christmas list. Read More

Product Overview

"How I Met Your Mother is a fresh comedy about Ted (Josh Radnor) and how he fell in love. When Ted's best friends Marshall (Jason Segel) and Lilly (Alyson Hannigan) decide to tie the knot it sparks the search for his own Miss Right. Helping him in his quest is his bar-hopping ""wing-man"" Barney (Neil Patrick Harris), a confirmed bachelor with plenty of wild schemes for picking up women. Ted's sites are set on the charming and independent Robin (Cobie Smulders), but destiny may have something different in mind. Told through a series of flashbacks, Ted recalls his single days, the highs and lows of dating and the search for true love.

This three disc collection includes all 22 episodes from Season One of How I Met Your Mother!"

Editors Note
Note Though HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER has the look of a traditional, multi-camera sitcom, this comedy has all the fun and smarts of fellow critical darlings 30 ROCK and ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT. Told via a giant flashback, the twist-filled series is narrated from the perspective of Ted Mosby in the year 2030 as he tells his daughter and son how he met their mother more than 20 years ago. Young Ted (Josh Radnor) is inspired by the romance of his roommate Marshall (FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL's Jason Segel) and his fiancée Lily (BUFFY's Alyson Hannigan), and he decides to embark on his own search for love. Aided in his quest by wingman Barney "Have you met Ted?" Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris), Ted looks all over New York City for the future Mrs. Mosby. When he meets Robin (Cobie Smulders), he thinks his quest may be over, but it's not as easy as it seems. HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER boasts a strong cast, but it's Harris who steals every scene as the womanizing Barney, who has the most quotable catchphrases since SEINFELD. Suit up for every episode of the show's first season.

Reviews
ReviewSource Variety
Review Now and again a sitcom comes along that undermines all "The form's broken" hand-wringing about multicamera-and-couch comedy. Having managed that trick two years ago with "Two and a Half Men," CBS does it again with this bright, cleverly constructed half-hour that features a topnotch cast and a sly, too-good-to-give-away twist. It's not often that a pilot has the polished feel of a show that's been around for a while, but "How I Met Your Mother" should be a solid bridge between "King of Queens" and the aforementioned "Men"...Series creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas have assembled a smart and funny core of characters, but what makes the series most fascinating is the promise of how the title will unfold through this season and possibly beyond.

Robert Lloyd, Los Angeles Times Sharp and sentimental, like Seinfeld with feeling.
