Customer Reviews of HP 12c Platinum Financial Calculator
Still the best3/12/2011
I bought my first HP 12c in 1981. I still have it and its still working. The new 12c platinum costs about the same as the 1981 version but has more functions, better processor and display. I don't know why I waited so long to buy one.
Exceeds Origional HP-12c7/6/2008
Platinum display is 20% taller, 6mm vis-a-vis 5mm & easier to read. New Undo, Backspace, & X^2 keys are a great addition. Only non-finance F-key missing is Pi (can be stored in one of 20 registers). Black on Platinum "Ref Guide" on back is easier to read. New single battery a definite plus. Gold f-Key & labels are now orange, Faster processor chip is definite Plus for financial functions & programs. New ALG mode is nice option for "RPN challenged" users. Great owners manual. I hope the "white" key value/functions are injection molded so they never wear off; like my original 12c, which still functions after 25 years. New case is double thick genuine leather with magnetic flap closure. This makes packed case thickness almost twice that of original 12c. Bottom Line... If you own the 12c - Definitely go Platinum !!! If you don't own one yet, get it while yo can...
this HP12C is cool as a cat6/10/2008
Dude. Modeling cash flows on this baby is like a dream come true. Given that excel is so messed up now with the new version cramping on my shortcut keys and all, I may just throw my computer out the window and use the HP 12C Platinum as my primary source for crunching cash flows. Just kidding. I almost bought an old school gold HP12C, but I had a $25 google checkout coupon which brought the price of this bad boy down to $52. And with extra functions that i'll probably never learn how to use, I figured I had to get the new PLATINUM edition. Word.
This was a really great price on a classic calculator. It meets my needs perfectly for financial management of rental property. I get a little depressed whenever I think of what HP has done to their calculator division, but at least the HP 12C lives up to their old reputation.

I'm still learning how to use the HP but am pleased with it's performance. I'm especially happy with the price!

Still a great calculator3/27/2007
I had used a HP 41C for 20 years and it finally gave out after it was dropped on a sidewalk and broke the battery pack. I decided to try the 12C as a replacement for it. The 12C has a lot of handy features for finace and the 25th Anniversary Model looks cool and is easy to use if you are familiar with RPN entry. The 41C is still my favorite, but the 12C is a worthy replacement.
The Best 12 C yet!2/9/2007
I have had a 12C for 15+ years and love it. I have also had the 11C and 19-IIB and of all of them, I like this version the best. It is lighter in weight and it attractive. It does all the same old functions and is a solid calculator for general use and great with financial functions such as loan amortization, etc. I like the new leather case as well for this Anniversary edition. Although the case is bulkier than the one before, it is a nice change. At Buy.Com, I found the pricing on this 12C is among the best pricing around as I shopped a few places online and Buy.Com had the best end cost from a reliable merchant. Enjoy!
Better than the regular HP12c2/9/2007
I purchased the HP12c Platinum for a CPF course. I would highly recommend the Platinum edition over the regular HP12c. Many of my classmates have the regular edition and it is very slow in computing IRR and other more complicated financial functions. The Platinum edition is very fast; I have never had to wait more than a second or two. Although if I had it to do over again I probably would have gotten the TI - BA II Plus, which seems to be alittle easier to use with uneven cash flows and much cheaper. The HP12c Platinum uses reverse polish notation which is alittle hard to get use to, but once you do it makes the calulations easier to enter. There are good and bad things about the calulator, but it seems to work just like advertised. So, if you are thinking about the regular vs. the platinum. GET THE PLATINUM it is the same calculator, but better.
The best 12C calculator yet!9/27/2006
This one is THE one to get if you're into the 12C. All other previous versions of it are not as nice as this one: esthetically or performance wise. I think this will become a collector's item in a year or two.
