Great copier...Marginal software
As a copier and printer, the 2610 is fantastic. Color copies with enlargement or reduction look fantastic. Prints are great too. Draft mode is VERY FAST. Don't print anything by mistake, because it will all be printed before you can stop it. I tried to set it up as an independent network device and the feature set for it looks great in this mode, but the software has lots of problems. It doesn't seem to work well with fast user switching, it is HUGE (350MB+!), and uses HUGE amounts of RAM during scans, causing the scans to take forever. I tried to do a 4x5 scan at 600dpi and it used 200MB+ of RAM. My system has 384MB, so that shouldn't be a problem, but it is SO SLOW. It took over a minute just for the splash screen for the scanning software to come up, and about 3 minutes beyond that to do the scan. It also doesn't work with the built in Scanner and Camera Wizard (it shows up as a scanner, but when you try to use the wizard it says there are no scanners). The software also runs continuously in the background and chugs away on the disk for about 10 seconds every few minutes or so. When will scanner companies learn that I just want a driver, not a load of bloated proprietary software? To be fair, I have only installed it in the networked mode, which appears to be a new feature. I will try to install it with a direct USB connection next month when I get a new computer with USB2--hopefully I'll have better results then.
