Customer Reviews of HP ProCurve 1810G-8 Ethernet Switch - 8 x 10/100/1000Base-T
Excellent switch, great customer service.12/3/2010
First, the previous reviewer is confused. No switch can figure out "what's plugged into a given port." All it knows is what mac addresses are downstream because that's the only information that's available in the ip packet header. Second, this is a great switch. I've been using procurve products for years and I've never had a failure. The management and virtual lan features are must-haves for managing complex networks.. or if you just like to know what's going on. The HP support is also top notch. I found a bug in the SNMP code of this switch and HP sent me custom patched firmware. And with a lifetime warrenty, you really can't go wrong.
Good switch but missing 1 HUGE basic functionality8/24/2010
I *love* the procurve line .... these are generally great switches. The web-manageability is a great -- lots of switch features available via the gui. And add a lifetime warranty and it's almost perfect. BUT! One *HUGE* omission!!!! You CANNOT [at the time of this writing] IDENTIFY what is plugged into a given port! An amazing deletion of functionality because this is a "web-managed switch only" according to HP. The switch can be powered remotely over a POE adapter or switch that provides POE, but you cannot tell over the web what is plugged into the switch without rummaging thru the mac address table manually??? Every buyer of this who cares about remotely identifying ports should complain to HP about this.
