Artist Overview
Singer and actress Jennifer Hudson was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, and grew up performing in church, talent shows, and local theater productions. While working as a performer on Disney Cruise Lines, Hudson auditioned for and won a slot on the television show AMERICAN IDOL. She did not win the competition, but was offered an audition for the role Effie White in the film adaptation of the Broadway play DREAMGIRLS. She got the role, and eventually won 29 awards for her performance, including a Golden Globe and an Academy Award. Hudson has also appeared in the films SEX IN THE CITY, THE MOVIE and THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES. Her self-titled debut album appeared in 2008.
