Album Notes and Credits

Notes & Personnel Info
Muze PNote Personnel includes: John Clark (French horn); Alex Foster (soprano & tenor saxophones); Pete Levin (keyboards); Dave Taylor (bass trombone); Mike Richmond (bass); Bruce Ditmas (drums).
Muze PNote Recorded at Sony Studios, New York, New York on October 7-8, 1996. Includes liner notes by Ron Everton.
Muze PNote On his fourth album as a leader, French horn player John Clark showcases his talents as a composer and arranger for a rotating ensemble of up to eleven musicians, including Alex Foster on saxophone, Ryo Kawasaki on guitar, and Howard Johnson on bass clarinet. The eclectic lineup works its way through five Clark originals and three standards, including a rousing large group take on John Coltrane's "India," which opens, appropriately enough, with a sitar. Clark's compositions range from freely improvised duos and trios to more intricately orchestrated pieces for larger groups. The ensemble playing throughout the album is always interesting and frequently inspired. ~ Joel Roberts

Producer: Ralph Simon

Engineer: Joe Barbaria

Professional Reviews

Down Beat (9/97, pp.45-46)
- 4 stars (out of 5)
- "...[Clark] showcases his gifts as a soloist, composer, orchestrator and instigator....his solos are revelatory....outside-the-box ensemble concepts and edgy solists too seldom featured on recordings."

JazzTimes (6/97, p.122)
- "...shows here his mastery of the horn in settings inventive and varied....The high luster on these recordings is far more than just an illusion of depth."
