Product Overview

What if every choice we ever make was already made for us? What if there really were no coincidences in life and our destinies were already predetermined?

Ten strangers with secrets are brought together in a savage rainstorm: A limo driver (John Cusack), an '80s TV star (Rebecca DeMornay), a cop (Ray Liotta) who is transporting a killer (Jake Busey), a call girl (Amanda Peet), a pair of newlyweds (Clea DuVall and William Lee Scott) and a family in crisis (John C. McGinley, Leila Kenzle, Bret Loehr), all take shelter at a desolate motel run by a nervous night manager (John Hawkes). Relief in finding shelter is quickly replaced with fear as the ten travelers begin to die, one by one. They soon realize that, if they are to survive, they'll have to uncover the secret that has brought them all together.

Review An out-of-the-way motel. An introverted manager with a skeleton in the closet. Guests who lose their heads at the first signs of trouble. Sound familiar? Although the echoes of Hitchcock are certainly intentional, Identity is not Pscyho, nor does it strive to be. A movie that successfully navigates the line between psychological thriller and slasher horror movie, Identity ultimately metamorphoses into something unexpected and startling. What starts out as a seemingly-routine excursion into genre cliches emerges into a more complex and satisfying arena than most viewers will anticipate...As he has shown in his previous movies, which include Heavy, Copland, and Girl, Interrupted, Mangold prefers character-centered pieces over action-oriented ones. Initially, Identity seems to be a departure - but early impressions can be deceiving.

Review No way west, no way east, and trapped at a roadside inn with ten of your closest strangers, then nine, then eight.... That's the basic plot of Identity, which stars John Cusack as a limo driver for an '80s starlet (coincidentally played by '80s starlet Rebecca DeMornay) who is forced to solve the inexplicable deaths of fellow travelers at a very Bates-like motel...Identity is great late-night, get-your-chill-on fare, with strong performances by its seasoned cast. Unfortunately, the ambitious plot weaves in and out of itself so often that the end result doesn't reward the effort, unlike more satisfyingly plot-filled films like Memento and The Usual Suspects. Identity's potential is stifled by its own self-consciousness and, perhaps, insecurity.

Quotes
Chris Kaltenbach, Baltimore Sun ...mixes the psychological with the supernatural, the profane with the ridiculous...It's all great fun.
Ebert & Roeper Two Thumbs Up!
Jeffrey Anderson, San Francisco Examiner The most satisfying and accomplished thriller in recent memory.
Mick Lasalle, San Francisco Chronicle ...more than an entertaining thriller. It's a highly original one.
Robert Wilonsky, Dallas Observer ...an outright blast, so fun it's--pardon--scary.
