IMAX Cosmic Voyage: The Academy Award nominee Cosmic Voyage combines live action with state-of-the-art computer-generated imagery to pinpoint where humans fit in our ever-expanding universe. Highlighting this journey is a "cosmic zoom" based on the powers of 10, extending from the Earth to the largest observable structures in the universe, and then back to the subnuclear realm -- a guided tour across 42 orders of magnitude! Explore some of the greatest existing scientific theories, some of which have never before been visualized on film, from the birth of the cosmos and solar system to the nature of black holes and exploding supernovas. Cosmic Voyage was filmed in the IMAX format and exhibited in IMAX theaters worldwide. This video version is digitally mastered from original 70MM film elements with the sound components specially mixed and mastered to produce the highest quality Dolby Surround soundtrack.

IMAX Destiny in Space: Destiny in Space is a tribute to the spirit of our continuing exploration of the solar system. Board a satellite in space to look back upon the shuttle orbiting Earth. Join astronauts to deploy and repair the Hubble Telescope. Travel millions of miles to soar above the remarkable contours of Venus and Mars. Finally, find astonishing proof of new planets, and with them the possibility of other life forming around distant stars. Destiny in Space was filmed in the IMAX format and exhibited in IMAX theaters worldwide. This video version is digitally mastered from original 70MM film elements with the sound components specially mixed and mastered to produce the highest quality Dolby Surround soundtrack.

Editor's Note
COSMIC VOYAGE: This ambitious exploration into science and space gives the audience views of the cosmos that were never imaginable before. Using computer generated graphics and the latest technological advances in cinematography, this program studies the universe and the role of humans occupy in this world. Originally produced for the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum and screened in the IMAX format, this documentary program boasts two of the longest continuous zooms in the history of filmmaking achieved through animation. Also included is a thrilling Big Bang simulation. Morgan Freeman hosts.

DESTINY IN SPACE: The Hubble Telescope has given people the world over views of other planets that prior to its invention were only dreamed possible. This amazing film examines the telescope as well as the incredible images it captured. Venus and Mars are gloriously photographed. Also included is stunning footage of the telescope being prepared by astronauts floating alongside it. Leonard Nimoy narrates this fascinating look at space exploration, originally shown in the IMAX format.

[Cosmic] IMAX films have changed and grown over the years. While these large-format films were largely about educating the audience to the world around us, there are several films today that are more about entertainment. Some of these films have attempted to tell a story in the 35-minute IMAX running time and have largely failed. "Cosmic Voyage" is an interesting example of IMAX because, rather than simply focusing on space like many before it ("Mission to Mir", etc), the film tries to explain our place in the universe...Starring with an overview of the "systems" that we go through every day, the the film goes all the way into space and back again, analyzing the smallest particles that share our world. The film is able to provide an entertaining and informative look at how the world began and offer an understandable discussion of the process. I suppose my only minor complaint is that the film bounces around a bit rather than simply focusing on the minor and then gradually expanding out to the vast reaches of the vast reaches of the universe. Overall, one of the better IMAX films that I've viewed; it's really able to pack a lot of information and entertainment in its 35-minute running time. Terrific narration is provided by Morgan Freeman..."Cosmic Voyage" is an entertaining and thought-provoking look at our place in the universe.

DVD Verdict 9 of 10
[Destiny] IMAX: Destiny In Space should pander to the child in all of us. Who among you didn't dream of reaching the furthest ends of the galaxy when you were a child? For those of us who grew up in the heyday of Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica and The Last Starfighter, we know what it was like to dream the impossible dream...IMAX: Destiny In Space is a short (clocking in at around 40 minutes) but interesting exploration into space travel and other such themes. IMAX: Destiny In Space includes some interesting facts about space travel; for instance, I never knew that plant life was grown on space shuttles for food, or that bones and muscles must be exercised because there is no support for body weight due to anti-gravity...IMAX: Destiny In Space is packed with all kinds of history and information about different space explorations from all around the globe. If you have a thirst for knowledge on space, NASA, or floating around in rooms without gravity, then IMAX: Destiny In Space is going to be your cup of radioactive Jupiter lava...IMAX: Destiny In Space is an enjoyable film for the astronaut in all of us. Kids will especially like this feature, and will probably be willing to watch it again and again...While I'm sure this film is much more thrilling on the towering IMAX screen, IMAX: Destiny In Space is still a lot of fun...and educational to boot! - Patrick Naugle
