Not so very long ago, Eragon--Shadeslayer, Dragon Rider--was nothing more than a poor farm boy, and his dragon, Saphira, only a blue stone in the forest. Now the fate of an entire civilization rests on their shoulders.
Long months of training and battle have brought victories and hope, but they have also brought heartbreaking loss. And still, the real battle lies ahead: they must confront Galbatorix. When they do, they will have to be strong enough to defeat him. And if they cannot, no one can. There will be no second chances.
The Rider and his dragon have come further than anyone dared to hope. But can they topple the evil king and restore justice to Alagaesia? And if so, at what cost?
This is the much-anticipated, astonishing conclusion to the worldwide bestselling Inheritance cycle.

"From the Hardcover edition."

Christopher Paolini's sweeping epic, which began with a humble farm boy finding a glorious but worthless blue rock in the mountains, sends a grown Eragon and maturing Saphira to mount their last fraught attempt to defeat the evil King Galbatorix in this final volume of the Inheritance Cycle. Facing down death again and again, the brave duo and their numerous allies engage in elaborate battles that lead to fatal blow after fatal blow, bringing them closer to victory. However, to save Alagaesia for good, Eragon and Saphira must discover the source of Galbatorix's secret power. Multiple dangling plot lines are satisfyingly addressed, including what becomes of the troubling Murtagh, Nasuada's fate, the Dragon Riders' future, and where Arya will finally fit into Eragon's life. Bloody, brutal fights abound, magical quests reveal important answers, and crucial secrets are exposed in this lovingly detailed conclusion to the bestselling epic quartet.
Author Bio
Christopher Paolini
Home-schooled by his parents, Christopher Paolini was 15 years old when he began writing ERAGON, a project he began to entertain himself and which eventually become his first published novel. Inspired by such diverse works as "Beowulf" and Bruce Coville's fantasy story JEREMY THATCHER, DRAGON HATCHER, Paolini's novel tells of a poor peasant boy named Eragon who discovers he is a descendent of the Riders, a band of dragon-riding warriors. Many of the characters in ERAGON speak in languages created by Paolini (with the help of his younger sister, Angela) and which were inspired by Old Norse languages. Originally self-published, ERAGON was brought to the attention of publishing company Alfred A. Knopf by author Carl Hiaasen, who was impressed with his stepson's enthusiastic reading of the book. The book was made into a film in 2006.

"The solidly entertaining plot is fleshed out with defining moments for every major character and a sense of completion (temporary or permanent) for all involved." 11/07/2011

"[T]here's a suitably melancholy feel to last third of INHERITANCE, an acknowledgment that magic comes with a price. In that sense, INHERITANCE reminded me of Lloyd Alexander's Newbery-winning The Chronicles of Prydain, another series that featured an orphan farm boy with a flaming sword." - Yvonne Zipp 11/08/2011

"Tucking in well-developed side plots, elaborate set pieces, internecine squabbles, extraneous characters, piles of corpses and, toward the end, even oblique allusions to sex (dragon sex, anyway), Paolini moves his tale along with all deliberate speed to its properly explosive, massively destructive climax." 12/01/2011
