The Intel Desktop Board D525MW is designed to unleash the power of the new Intel Atom processor D525 which supports the new revolutionary two-chip layout. This new chipset layout reduces the package footprint by 70 percent, enabling easier routing and better heat flow. The Intel NM10 Express Chipset also provides additional flexibility and upgradability with two slots of single channel DDR3 memory at 1066/800 MHz supporting up to 4GB maximum.
With breakthrough low-power silicon, the Intel Desktop Board D525MW can be used with a passive thermal solution based on the recommended boundary conditions. The Intel Desktop Board D525MW represents a fundamental shift in system design-small, yet powerful enough to enable a big Internet experience for all.
I use this Atom CPU/Motherboard combo as a personal web/svn/file server. It runs Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. So far it has been great and I highly recommend it. I put it in a M350 case, which makes it an extremely compact passively-cooled box. As I needed some disk space I decided to use a conventional 2.5 HDD. If you don't need hundreds of gigabytes for file storage, it might be a good idea to consider an SSD instead. In the latter case it will be a completely noise-free design.
Nice and fast4/7/2011
Very Fast with an Atom.. wish it would have a PCI Express slot .. installed a NVidia pci with 512 mb ram with bluray rom drive.. plays bluarays at 1080P on an LG 47" TV connected DVI to HDMI on video card.. Must use an older driver for video card to play blurays but everything works great.. Doesnt skip a beat..
