Customer Reviews of Iomega eGo 1TB USB 2.0 & FireWire 400/800 Desktop Hard Drive - Mac Edition
First one was a dud - quickly replaced5/30/2011
I've been using this external drive as the TimeMachine backup on my MacBook Pro for the last few months now and I've been very happy with it. I like that it has FireWire 800 - frees up my USB ports for other peripherals. The first one I got of these was DOA, but Buy.com quickly replaced it. Overall I'm pretty happy with this drive and it's been reliable so far.
Easy to install and it works like a charm! Quiet and always doing the job. I recently had some issues with my Itunes coverflow, getting corrupted by a 3rd party software, I had been using. I was able to go back with my time machine and the help of my Iomega and restore all my music library without any problems. Awesome! everybody should have a back up, you never know when you are going to need it! Iomega 1TB works wonderfully and effortlessly!
so far so good1/20/2011
Bought the Mac version of this drive for a new iMac with Snow Leopard OSX 10.6 and it worked right out of the box. I daisy-chained it via the two FireWire ports as a spacer between my iMac and a scanner, with no problem. Time Machine recognized it right off and no issues. So far, this is easy to use and looks great, takes up very little space, and the price was right. I only hope it lasts.
Iomega Hard Drive1/17/2011
My Macbook got overloaded with lots of videos, audios and official files. I was searching for a good drive to keep them all safe. My sister got this drive for me. I must say, this is a cool drive! A perfect companion from my Mac. It was very easy to install and start using the drive. Apart from the USB compatibility, Firewire 400/800 is a bonus. Copying stuff did not take too long with firewire. The 3 year warranty is a definite plus.
I was searching for a drive that goes with the time machine of my MacBook Pro. This drive turned out to be the one for me. It is quick, easy, and reliable and the most cost-effective drive. It did not take too long to initialize the drive and use it. I had to just plug it and my Mac immediately recognized the drive and asked if this was the one I want to use time machine with. I said yes and till now this is going on. I am quite satisfied with my buy and its performance.
Works as advertised12/16/2010
Worked straight away with my new iMac. I didn't install any software - I use it (via Firewire) with Time Machine. It is very quiet.
Plug and play!11/23/2010
I ordered this drive to interface with Time Machine on my iMac. After an unfortunate experience with a Seagate external hard drive previously purchased for my other computer (a PC, which was hard to interface with the Seagate - the included software was NOT user friendly), I decided to try this iomega 1TB unit for the iMac. I was very pleasantly surprised! It doesn't come with many instructions, and now I see why - just plug it into the wall and the iMac, and it works with no further input required! The iMac (and Time Machine) immediately recognized the iomega drive, and asked me if this was the one I wanted to use Time Machine with. I said yes, and haven't had to touch it since! Quiet, automatic, and (so far) reliable.
Iomega 1 TB Drive for MAC11/22/2010
Worked right out of the box with firewire and use TimeMachine to back up my HD. Have no complaints and the price was right. Cheaper than Costco which only had a USB connection.
Iomega eGo 34794 1 TB - Hard Drive for Macintosh11/19/2010
This device is the most cost-effective instrument I have ever used for sequential back-ups of my MacBook Pro. It is quick, easy to use, and reliable. Due to the high speed available through FireWire, I find it more efficient to use than Apple's TimeCapsule, at well under half the cost. The only down-side is that the Iomega Hard Drive does not have the WiFi capacities inherent in TimeCapsule, but I already have quite ample WiFi available via my Airport system. In all, it is a very good value at this price, and I am quite satisfied. One final note: Buy.Com's service and communications are spot on. I will be happy to do business with them again.
It's my new Time Machine drive11/17/2010
Opened the box, plugged it in and connected to a FW400 port on my iMac. It was already formatted. Designated it as my Time Machine HD, and it ran without a hitch. Has been running for a few weeks, and all is well. I paid $99. Price has jumped up $15. But, still a great deal, as external HDDs with FW ports are not that easy to come by these days. Nice that FW and USB cables were included. This is anything but a bare bones HD. Good buy.
Great hard drive that just works.11/6/2010
It worked right out of the box with my Macbook Pro and synced effortlessly with Time Machine. Is a great value for the money. Great part about it is that it comes with firewire cable, which most hard drives do not include, so that is maybe $20 or so saved. The firewire is great too. Super fast and leaves an extra usb port open for all my other devices that are usb (which is pretty much all of them).
Does a good job10/18/2010
I am keeping it exclusively for time machine backup. Does a good job. I have a few Firewire 800 machines on which this runs well.
Firewire 800 + 1 Tb. Good9/9/2010
Transfer speed on mine has been 750 mbps. Fits my Mac and power requirements alike. Great for all kinds of media files.
Fairly good desktop drive8/19/2010
Confined its use to be a desktop ext hard drive. Suits my Mac apparatus. I depend only on firewire so the speed is also fairly good. Going for a product registration to upgrade the warranty.
