This simple to use portable drive happens to be my constant companion for all my travels. The rubber drop guard feature keeps it safe on move. Using USB 3.0 transfer of files is fast. I need not bother about the remaining space in the drive as it has a commendable storage space of 1TB.
You get what you pay for.................12/14/2011
Horrible time with this drive,,, read negative feedback and ignored it because I wanted the usb3 at a reasonable price. AFter hours of trying to get the software to work I contacted support (on-line chat) - they weren't able to help so they sent out a replacement (refurbished-read the small print!) that didn't work much better but at first it looked promising. In the end this drive has never worked properly - with or without the software - DO NOT BUY this if you want a reliable portable drive. Mine is nothing more than an expensive paper weight right now. Not worth spending anymore of my time on trying to get it working. BTW - My pc is not and old clunker - I have WIn7 64bit and tried 2 other operating systems (XP & Vista) but none worked any better than the other... Look elsewhere - Kingston may cost a little more but you get what you pay for !
you MUST have the right port for that fast connection or else it is like the other HDs and they give you two plugs that are on one cable, so it's easy whatever way. I have a problem with this design..it's so sleek, you can fit in your pocket, the size a a wallet but why does it have that annoying rubber casing(removable) but HOW DO YOU place this thing on the desk..is there a holder I did not get??and then even if it's in a holder, the cable AND light ,to show you that it is on cause there is no on & off switch, are on the same side..just clumsy design
Fast Safe External !!6/30/2011
thrid time i'm buying iomega hard external hard drive. 1TB, supporting usb3.0 (feels even faster with 2.0), save module. I've bought 350G, 500G, and 1TB. all bought for over 100. this's the best deal so far. It also has additional band that can absorb the shock damage. Been using over 2yr, no problem with this brand!!
One of the best gifts I have got1/26/2011
I have got this as a gift from my uncle few months back. This simple to use portable drive happens to be my constant companion for all my travels. The rubber drop guard feature keeps it safe on move. Using USB 3.0 transfer of files is fast. I need not bother about the remaining space in the drive as it has a commendable storage space of 1TB. The data in the drive is safe since there is encryption software already included in it. This is a great little drive.
Very satisfied buy1/19/2011
Recommended by a friend of mine, this drive turned out to be an excellent one. The little red drive is now one of my favorite drives when I am on move. I had to just plug it to my system to start using it. The installations and initialization was quite quick. The huge capacity and the protective shell are a bonus.
Samsung inside, encryption partition not optional1/19/2011
PROS - Sturdy construction, decent price, Samsung HM100UI drive inside (according to HDDScan) CONS - Tacky rubber cover is lame (hello dust, dirt, etc) but easily removed, My main gripe is that it has a CDFS partition that is present at boot (it shows in my boot drive options), so it must be part of the firmware. I tried Acronis 10.x, along with several other HDD format tools, but the CDFS partition cannot be removed/formatted. I then queried Brady at Iomega support and his answer was, basically, if it is a Iomega USB 3.0 drive, the encryption is required/permanent and the partition cannot be removed. I would love it if I could even change & use that partition for bootable options, which I could/would use, but it is locked to such things. I don't like drives that run active content ever since my first U3 drive and, at least, for those drives there was a utility to remove U3. Come on, Iomega, give us a similar option...
When it works, great12/27/2010
Works very well when it works. However, when I leave it plugged in, it occasionally loses contact and I end up with 30-50 screens saying I have to reformat. Repeatedly! Kinda a Drag! I will use this to backup my netbook and remove it when finished.
Easy to use11/28/2010
This device is very easy to use. For some reason it was making 3 copies of the backups, but the problem was easily corrected...
Dreamed about a 1TB 2.5" for years...11/16/2010
Overall I'm pretty happy with it. So far, the only thing keeping this drive from being perfect in my opinion is that it could be a touch smaller (but not much) and the virtual cdrom annoys me.
So far so good!11/8/2010
I got it at a good discount on Buy.com. Price seems to change weekly. The drive is a bit bigger than my 1TB Toshiba Canvio model, which is my current favorite 1TB portable drive. I don't have USB 3 yet, but on USB 2, this drive delivers the max throughput of 30MB/s on fairly sequential reads.
It really is fast!11/7/2010
This drive truly is much faster than USB 2.0 drives but obviously only if you have a USB 3.0 card. I have one so I'm enjoying the speed. Cloning a drive or copying large files is noticeably quicker. It will work just fine on a USB 2.0 connection so even if your computer doesn't have 3.0, it's still probably worth buying because it really wasn't significantly more expensive than a USB 2.0 drive and it will take you into the future.
Chic n powerpacked10/20/2010
Unbelievable that a full terab is in there within this chic red compact drive. Then there is usb 3.0 specialty. I generally do not rush into a good opinion about a storage piece until I am really convinced. I gotta say this is like a powerpacked cracker for storage.
