Customer Reviews of Iomega eGo 500GB USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive - Red
Failed with minimal use7/1/2014
Purchased this to back up the files on my laptop. Loaded everything on it and several months later I wanted to back up my files again. All I get is a clicking noise when I connect it to my laptop. Cannot access any of my files. Would not recommend this product.
v.clone doesn't work, support poor4/25/2012
The drive functions as a hard drive which is good. I tried to use v.clone on two different XP pc's without success. The first I believe was possibly blocked by encryption software which I can understand. The 2nd pc completed the clone without issues but trying to use the clone repeatedly gives the famous windows "blue screen" of death.
Portable Hard drive2/16/2012
Easy to connect, have used it for over 6 months now and have not had any problems. It comes with two different USB ports depending on the age or speed needed for your device. Good value.
Instant support service8/10/2011
I bought Iomega eGo 500GB USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive - Red – 35312 not just for its stylish looks and portability but because it promises quicker transfer with its USB 3.0 interface. Though it was recognized immediately by my new laptop, the device was invisible on my PC. I was stuck and called Iomega customer care and they explained to me that it could be because of USB compatibility. Then I realized that my PC does not support USB 3.0. Thank god Iomega eGo is backward compatible so I used with USB 2.0 port as suggested by the technical support cell and got the issue sorted out.
This little baby serves the same purpose as the RDX 500GB cartridge and at half the price.
Just needs an on/off switch5/24/2011
this thing is the size of your wallet..amazing speed BUT the only way I know it's working or on, is the little light..I have an iMac that's on "it's last leg" but STILL it worked with this computer...very very fast they NEED to redesign it...it's such a nice piece of technology, that you do not know which way is UP,no switch to turn it on/off and way too many cables...but STILL I like it...this adds to the 3 others I have. Cheers.. Tony(NYC)
Very satisfied with this product. Very fast to read/use, Small enough to take it anywhere. The shipping was FREE,it was DELIVERED SUPER FAST too!!! (unlike other sellers who take longer to ship it when it's free). A+ Highly Recommended.
Very FAST external disk12/19/2010
I bought this external disk to be my other backup disk's backup so that I could grab this disk and go at any time and have all my information with me when I need it. I bought a USB 3.0 PCI Express card for it as well. The disk/card combination is several times faster than my other USB 2.0 external disk even though I think this disk spins at 5400 rpm and the other, a 3.5" disk, spins at 7200 rpm. Buy.com was, as usual, very easy to purchase from with a good price and very fast delivery.
Lovely looks, light, superfast11/26/2010
The best thing about this hard drive is that it does not get hot even after 4 hours of use. The device getting heated up soon was a permanent reality. I keep it for urgent storage needs as well as for backup for specific documentation purposes. For the decent storage system that I wanted along with a really good warranty, I am a happy user. Now I take this along with my car keys, wallet and folder whenever I step out of my home.
I can relax about the fact that this gizmo can work at true usb 3 speed and that the data is secure. Most devices either have a weak backup or data security software or the hardware may be flimsy. But this hard drive does not compromise on either. It is rugged, supercompact and looks good too.
Good - But Virtual CD SUCKS11/8/2010
Overall this drive is great. It looks great. If you have only USB2 it's fast. If you have USB3 it's VERY fast. HOWEVER, Iomega is following WD's path by adding a virtual CD to the drive, so whenever you plug it two letters are taken from your system: one for the drive itself and one for the useless VCD. WD was smarter and AT LEAST put a firmware updater you can use to disable it... Iomega doesn't have anything. So you have to leave with the VCD like it HATE IT (like I do). Without the VCD crap I would give this a 5 rating. But to me this is killer...
Works nice but.11/8/2010
This virtual CD ROM that comes up as a external device along with the HD cannot be removed is annoying and unacceptable. Would not have bought this if I had known.
Great deal on a Great Product11/8/2010
Very satisfied with the product and the quick delivery.
It's an easy to use drive and worth the money. Be advised that it could use TWO USB ports.
Good drive, when my laptop finally recognized it.11/6/2010
I bought an Iomega eGo 500GB Portable External Hard Drive to backup all of my info from my laptop. I just bought a Dell XPS system for school and have some important info stored that I can't afford to lose in case of an accident. For some reason, my laptop did not recognize this drive when I connected it and just showed "unknown device". After an hour of looking for drivers from Iomega (which they didn't have), I downloaded some USB 3.0 software I found online and hoped for the best. While searching around I noticed other people with the same problem I was having. It was nice to know I wasn't the only one, but discouraging that there wasn't any answers about why this was happening. 30 minutes later I gave up...shut down my laptop and noticed it was completing an update. This is after restarting 3 times in hopes of this happening. Well, now my laptop recognized the drive and I backed up my info and had my doubts about it being recognized in the future. I've connected it about 6 times now, just to test if my laptop recognizes the drive and so far everytime it is available. I hope this helps anyone considering this drive, just look for the USB 3.0 software and then the device will become available.
