The rugged desktop ioSafe Solo external hard drive brings disaster protection to a price range that everyone can afford. With capacities from 500GB to 2TB, the ioSafe Solo can safely protect precious digital family photo albums, MP3 music libraries and days of video memories. For business, the ioSafe Solo hard drive is a great way to protect customer databases or to secure regulated information including patient records (HIPAA, Sox, etc) or credit card information (PCI regulated). Businesses use the Solo hard drive as a backup and storage device, no longer worrying about data loss from moving computer tapes and files offsite. Like other ioSafe products, the ioSafe Solo uses ioSafe patented technology including FloSafe air flow cooling, HydroSafe waterproof barriers and the DataCast fireproof insulation.

Noisy, but worth it3/22/2012
I am really happy with this backup drive. I use it instead of off-site storage for my home. The fan is a little noisier than I am used to since I am on a Mac, but would sound equivalent to a boutique PC with standard fans.
It recognized my computer and is super fast.
i got the 2tb at the best price, got it fast, looks great, works wounderful and it is quiet, have not had to talk to tech
I know you are wondering what HD is inside5/29/2011
Mine came with ST2000DL003-9VT166 This is from Seagate website Low Power Barracuda Green RPM 5900 ST2000DL003 (Desktop Entry Level) 9VT166 3.5 2TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 3 Years warranty. So, not the best performer, but not a Hitachi that some other person was complaining about. I can't objectively review the observed performance, since I plugged the enclosure into an Asus RT-N16 Router. I am seeing only 25Mbit/s writing over 1GBit Ethernet. I am sure it's the router problem, and I'll have to work on it. However, the drive did work out of the box, just plugged it into the router and could see it on the network. I think it came preformatted (or the router formatted it?) The thing to note is that we are paying a lot for the enclosure here. Even with this $200 for 2TB 1year recover, it's about $100 for enclosure. The box is really heavy, which instills confidence. The fan is audible, but not too loud. Still, I wouldn't put it on your desk next to your MacBook. I only had this for a few days, so this is not a long term review.
Great Backup Protection!4/29/2010
Purchased the ioSafe Solo 500gb drive several months ago and it has been involved in my company's backup process ever since. It arrived in perfect condition and was very easy to set up. It has functioned flawlessly since set-up. Of course I have to rely on the independent reviews concerning data recovery following a fire or flood, but it appears that the drive will perform as claimed. Why not backup up your data and protect it at the same time using one drive? Great bargain in my opinion. Reginald DataCheck Systems, Inc.
