Here's the good news, bad news on this seemingly ingenuous product. WHEN it works, it's great. Almost impossible to believe how well it works.
Came perfectly on time with no issues... came with all necessary parts and works exactly as it should... it was a bit bigger than i expected... but thats not the end of the world... no issues thus far but it is refurbished so im a bit afraid of how long it will last...

I won't duplicate what others have said. On our hardwood floors Roomba does a better job than the top-rated cannister which we've been using. We have a good whole-house furnace filter and we don't get an enormous amount of dust, so I don't find that the Roomba dust tray fills up quickly. It's true that the Roomba needs minor regular maintenance (such as cleaning the brushes), but all vacuums need this, and they rarely get it. It is easier to perform that maintenance on a Roomba. Two things prevent me from giving it five stars. The first is that the product is still not very "smart." As the technology progresses it will surely not take 30 minutes to vacuum one room. The second is that iRobot has dismal customer service. The reps aren't familiar with the functions, haven't read the product manuals, and don't even know what is in the box. In short, it acts like the military contractor that it is.

We love this vacuum & named it Rosey, after the Robot Maid on the Jetsons cartoon. Our Yellow Lab doesn't fully trust Rosey, but when we tape a dog treat to her, the pooch keeps a close eyey on her and waits for her to go to the base to eat. It is great at picking up dog hair missed by our regular vacuum.

After much research I purchased 560). We have been using it a week and have not yet had any problems with it. We use it everyday to clean at 9am. The only problem I seem to have is the little guy some times fails to return to the charging base station otherwise it does a much better job vacuuming then I have even been able to achieve.
I want to have to easy, I boyught it. I set it clean at more than 1000 square feet's floor of my house. It often miss some place, or clean same place again and again. To clean completely, I have to clean by myself. However, it gathered much dust. It is very helpful. Now, I use every day in first floor of my house. I consider I buy another one for 2nd floor.
Took the unit upstairs, plugged it right away and made it start right after the green light came on. It went into the 4 bedrooms, underneath the 4 beds, and the two bathrooms. Wow, I had no idea how much dirt has accumulated under the beds. The Roomba picked them up, then went back to its charger all by itself, without any interference! My wife and I are extremely impressed. I recommend this iRobot Roomba560 highly.

I have had my for 2 years with zero problems. Picks up more stuff than I ever thought possible. I run it before I leave for work in the morning and I come home and its sitting there all charged up ready to be emptied and used again. Great product. I'm probably going to get another one and have them clean at the same time.

My boss purchased the Neato I was able to try it out and do research on it before I chose the Roomba. I made the right choice!!! The neato doesn't have the brushes that get tight against the wall, and so what it doesn't bump into things! I use it every day- to pick up the cat litter and tidy up. It feels so nice to have my kitchen floor clean and leave the house in the morning with the floors looking spotless. My daughter used it overnight and her husband purchased one the next day! I am taking it to my boyfriends house for his hardwood floors tonight and I bet he will have one next week. its easy to use a 5 year old could use it - if your disabled, if you have kids, if you have pets, if you have tile floors, light carpet, cats, heck if you just hate to clean you need a ROOMBA! LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTING A SCOOBA NEXT!
iRobot Ruins a good thing!12/9/2010
I purchased a Roomba 560 and it came with electronics that made real sense. Lighthouses that allowed the unit to clean one room, move to the next and then clean the next room. I needed another to make life simpler, so I purchase another unit ...but the manufacturer "Dumbed Down" the model 560 and did not include the "lighthouses" that made life simpler! They made a lame decision ...AFTER releasing the model 560, to leave out an important function. After contacting "Roomba" I was informed that they did this so they could market the higher end models that weren't selling. STUPID DECISION ...You should improve the product, not make it less functional. Now I am left with having to return the dumbed down version and pay for shipping, re-packaging the unit and purchasing an older model that hasn't been "dumbed down". Obviously, a bad situation for any consumer! Hands down on poor product model decisions. They should have simply renamed the model and market it as a different dumbed down model. Yet they confuse the consumer by leaving the same model that is functionally different than the previous ...and not in a good way, it should have improved.

I get this Roomba for a few months now. It works faithfully. The floor is clean and I am happy. One of the lighthouse/fence unit uses a lot of battery power. I noticed that even when the roomba is not in operation, the light on the unit is still flashing. Perhaps it should be fixed since the other lighthouse/fence works fine.

I bought my Roomba after a couple years of contemplating it. Now, I wish I hadn't waited so long. We have 2 large dogs that shed heavily all year long plus a cat. The amount of pet hair in our house is pretty abundant. We have all hard surfaces on the 1st floor and several; large tufts of hair collect in corners and beneath the sofas. I was concerned that the capacity of the bin just wouldn't be sufficient for us and considered getting the "pet" version to get the larger sweeper bin but it turns out that isn't necessary. The bin collects all the hair on a daily basis and as long as we clean it out after each use, it works great. Every day, we come home to a completely, pet-hair free floor which is just amazing. It vacuums up the dust very effectively too. My daughter and I both have long hair which does get caught up in the brush (along with thread...I run a sewing business from home) but once a week, we just pull out the brushes and easily clean them. I have surprisingly found fairly large items in the bin too (goldfish crackers, pet kibble, plastic tabs from bread packages, small erasers & tiny toys). It does get lost every once in awhile when the charge is low but most of the time, it finds its way back to its base. I love that I can program it to set off on its own every day. It fits under the counters and one of the couches very nicely. It moves around objects pretty effectively (ie chair/table legs). We don't even need the lighthouses because our rooms are pretty open. I do use it as a virtual wall when I want extra cleaning in just one room. I bought it refurbished and it's working just fine. Easy to use right out of the box. I love it! I'm going to buy a Scooba next.
I love this product. My only quam is that is does not fit under my sofa.

I loved this while it worked. Unfortunately, if you examine the design, it is open underneath to dust and dirt. I would ask how long all the positive reviews on this site have owned the Robot. As long as dirt can get to the mechanism and electronics, I think it is doomed to a short life. I threw it out as I think it would fail again if I put money into a repair
Programming: I found the Roomba to be incredibly easy to program, no need to even read the directions. Press and set right out of the box. Every morning at 11:00 a.m., Roomba automatically leaves his base and cleans the downstairs. He then returns to his charging dock all by himself to charge for the next day. I don't ever have to touch him except to empty the bin every few days or so. Docking: Someone mentioned there needs to be a button to stop the cleaning and return it to its base...just press the "dock" button and he'll go right home. Brush cleaning: I think the brushes are extremely easy to clean, they are easy to access and pop right out. I found the red brush cleaning tool to be a breeze, it takes me twenty seconds to clean the brush if I slide the red cleaner up and down the brush at a rapid pace. I finally won the battle against pet hair from my dog. Maintenance is quick and easy for me, under two minutes to empty the bin and clean the brushes. Much faster than vacuuming my whole downstairs every day.
I really used to dread having to sweep. In my house it takes about 45 min to do the whole thing and actually pick up all of the dust. With this, the hardest part is remembering to clean it every night. People actually noticed that the floors are cleaner too. Now if only irobot made something to do stairs! I like it so much that I will be adding a scooba to my house soon for the tile areas. The area that it does automatically is kind of a circle around the staircase. Without the lighthouses, it gets lost. I may actually add 2 more lighthouses as it does still occasionally get lost. It goes from carpet to tile with ease, and even fits under most of my furntiure.

This is an addition to a 530 that we have so we can do more rooms more frequently. Only complaint is the battery on this seems to give out much more quickly than the other, but the dock should help with that once we get the programming figured out. Would recommend getting one if you're interested in them.
We've had our 560 iRobot for 3 months and with constant daily use, I have to say it's the best Christmas Present I've ever given my Sister-In-Law. She loves it.

I have been looking at the Roomba for the last 3 years and jumped on the 560 since the price was hard to beat and it was one of the better models. We have all hardwood floors and this thing is a real time-saver. It finds all of the dust bunnies that have accumulated under our bed and has helped in making our house less dusty. The first time going under the bed, it stopped and announced it had to be cleaned out because there was so much dust, but after the initial cleaning, it wasn't a problem. I find the rollers are very easy to clean and the hair removal tool works real good. The dirt bin is easy to clean also, but after dumping it, I'll remove the fine dust from it by taking it outside and blowing it out with my air gun from my air compressor. We love our new IRobot Roomba!
Better than I'd hoped1/9/2009
5 for iRobot, 4 for Buy.com. My wife wanted one of these things last year, but sort of forgot about it. So it would have been a nice Christmas Surprise--Except she found it on our porch with iRobot emblazoned on all sides of the box! Bad move Buy.com (unless I missed the "Gift wrap?" check box somewhere...). The 560 works way better than I ever hoped. The pictures make it look so small! The unit is quit large and feels nice and heavy-duty. Its wheels are large and allow it to go from hard tile floors to deep shag carpet without ANY hiccups. It picks us surface dust and sand and food under the kids' places at the table. As an added bonus it keeps the kids entertained a bit (and us, too, as we laugh at them yelling at it for "chasing" them). As another reviewer mentioned, the brushes do get wound up pretty easily, but the brushes are way easier to clean than a normal upright vacuum (no belt!). It doesn't take the place of a thorough vacuuming job but it does keep the place looking tidy.

This is the second IRobot that I've bought. The first one is a 410. (Non programming type.) This second one is a 560 and was suppose to be programmable.. turn itself on at a time you've selected, vacuum, then return to it's cradle to recharge and wait for the next day to do it all over again. It does a decent job of vacuuming but has only found it's way back to the cradle/charger twice in the time I've had it.. three weeks. So I pick her up every day and return her to charger. Doesn't work like I wished it would but what does nowadays..??

This is good for family with kids , so that u don't need to spend extra time for cleaning.. very easy to use but programming is not easy . But it is an optional feature.. it takes 20 minutes to clean a small room, clean the same are again and again and some area less. Algorithm need to improve. There should be a button to stop the cleaning and send the robot directly to base.

The time it takes to remove hair jamming up the brushes is approximately equivalent to the time it takes to vacuum a room by hand. I guess the Roomba would work fine for anyone who is totally bald and has no pets. Or I guess you could vacuum by hand and then run the Roomba just to pass the time. Once they get the brush design worked out, this will be a great product.

I've always wanted a Roomba, and when I saw a good deal on buy.com I had to get it. Cleans very well, I move it from room to room, turn it on in the AM and when I am back from work the carpets are clean. The wife had some reservations initially but loves Roomba now. Recommend you pick up everything off the floor before letting Roomba loose. Also the brush cleaning, etc. is a pain but is necessary after every vacuuming.

I installed solid walnut flooring over an old parquet floor. The parquet was a light colored wood and the walnut is a dark colored wood. I live in NYC and the dust is unbelievable. It shows up very well on the dark floor. But now, I have scheduled to run my Roomba every day at 5:00 pm and I come home to spotless floors! It's fantastic! The reason for the dip in the performance rating is because it only covers about 99.9% of the floor. But by running it everyday, I'm pretty well covered. Hey, it's a robot! It's only as smart as the person/people who programmed it. If they can add the ability to set the cleaning time when in use with the Virtual Wall/Lighthouse gizmos, then I could program it to clean longer than 25 minutes per area. It also seems to avoid the immediate area around the dock. All in all, I'm so glad I have it! It's not too loud and it moves at a pace that doesn't freak out my cat.
Its great! I have 2 dogs and a cat so I need it to run everyday. The only time I hear it is when the brushes need to be cleaned. It goes through the whole house-even under the beds and couch! It is amazing how well it picks up.
Out Standing Product - we named him RB6/24/2008
We have used RB (short for Room Ba) for three weeks now - almost every other day. I felt guilty when he came back with so much "gunk" the first time - I used an Electrox everyday in one room on another. ( RB really cleans. I am amazed) This is a must have - my home is 3 levels. I pick him up almost every night and take him & the light houses where they need to be. They never dissapoint me.... RB is what I wanted for my birthday present-my husband said "this will NEVER work and you are just wasting money". My husband reallllly likes RB now and has even asked me about RB's cousin "scuba" We had the base models where I work now for 3 years - and they worked great. If one broke I Robot sent another & call tag for the defective one. ( while they were warranted) Superior Customer Service..

I got the Roomba 560 as a Christmas present this year. It is a great vacuum cleaner. The best part is my husband acts like it a toy and frequently uses it. We have 2 dogs and it does a great job picking up the dog hair and dirt the dogs drag in. The dirt sensor accurately activates and the Roomba circles back to clean the dirty area. We empty our Roomba after every vacuuming which is needed with our dogs. For most people you could probably empty after every 2-3 uses. The Roomba is great at moving around different items like furniture with unusual legs and going over heat vents in the floor. It has never gotten stuck. The Roomba has more battery power for vacuuming the less objects it has to maneuver around. The Virtual Wall Lighthouses work perfect to keep the Roomba in the area you want to clean. They create an invisible wall that the Roomba will not cross. Our Roomba consistently docks itself after every use for recharging. Since we have gotten the Roomba, our house is visibly cleaner and less allergens in the air.
