| Matelasse is from the French word 'matelasser' meaning to quilt, to pad. The fabric is woven in a special way in which it has two warps. It is this weaving process that creates the signature puckered, or quilted effect to the finished matelasse design. Matelasse can give the appearance of being padded, but actually has no padding or fill within the fabric. It can be used alone on the bed or paired with another piece of bedding to add layers.
