Laugh all the way to the Jeffersons' "dee-luxe apartment in the sky" with the hilarious fifth season of this groundbreaking series. The Jeffersons changed perceptions and smashed social stereotypes with outrageous comedy and sharp-witted satire. In the fifth season, George, Weezy, Florence, and the entire gang are funnier than ever with their wisecrackin' ways. George (Sherman Hemsley) is bitten by the dance bug and comes down with a case of disco fever. Louise (Isabel Sanford) gets an eyeful when her drawing class sketches a nude model. Florence (Marla Gibbs) receives a marriage proposal from a highly devout man. Things get uncomfortable when a broken heater forces Harry, Tom and Helen (Paul Benedict, Franklin Cover and Roxie Roker) to spend the evening cramped up with the Jeffersons - and the jokes keep on coming! Digitally remastered for the first time on DVD, this three-disc collector's set includes all 24 hilarious episodes from the fifth season. Don't burn your beans on the grill--dig into a tasty helping of comedy with The Jeffersons.

"...had writing that was especially sharp...  James Plath, DVD Town
"...holds up surprisingly well...still seems fresh and funny.  Jonathan Boudreaux, TvDvdReviews.com

Editor's Note
THE JEFFERSONS was a popular and groundbreaking sitcom from the mid-1970s, which broke with social convention and racial stereotypes while delivering a high standard of entertainment. Based around George Jefferson (Sherman Helmsley), an ill-tempered dry-cleaning mogul, and his family, the show followed the Jeffersons' move from the ghetto to a highrise, and the subsequent adjustments that must be made. In the fifth season, matriarch Louise (Isabel Sanford) takes an art class and begins sketching nude models, much to George's dismay. George cons Billy Dee Williams into speaking at a benefit he's hosting, and the Jeffersons deal with the threat of a company buyout, a visit from Louise's sister, and George's disco fever.

Call me crazy, but I'm wishing that all sitcoms were like this. There's something about Norman Lear's creations that intrigues me. Most sitcoms play it safe, or are pointlessly vulgar. Lear's shows get under your skin -- they hit a nerve -- or they just plain offend people. The fact that people are still offended by these shows says a lot about the impact they made when they originally went on the air...The scripts are pretty good, too, although they don't always have the power that some of the best AITF episodes had. - David Macdonald
