Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Tom Selleck (Three Men and a Baby, TV's Magnum, P.I.) reprises his starring role as police chief Jesse Stone in this prequel to the hit telefilm Stone Cold, based on the best-selling series of Jesse Stone murder/mystery novels by Robert B. Parker. Following his divorce and the loss of his job as a homicide detective with the LAPD, Stone travels across the country to Paradise, Massachusetts, a small and seemingly quiet New England town where he is recruited by the town's board of selectmen to become the new Chief of Police. But things are not quite so heavenly in Paradise, as Stone starts off his first day on the job investigating a domestic abuse case that leads to a money-laundering scheme possibly involving bank manager Hasty Hathaway (Saul Rubinek, Unforgiven, The Contender) - one of the men responsible for hiring Stone. Stephen Baldwin and Stephanie March co-star. Will town officials be able to stop Stone from digging too deep into their dirty secrets, or will Stone and his dedicated police force be able to unearth a deadly cover-up in Night Passage?

"...first-rate...the role fits Selleck like an old Hawaiian shirt...  Brian Lowry, Variety

Editor's Note
See how Jesse Stone goes from the L.A.P.D. to a small town's sheriff's office in this prequel to the Stone Cold series. Tom Selleck (MAGNUM P.I.) produces the film and stars as Stone, whose exile to the New England village has him struggling with his own demons as much as the crime in the unlikely named town of Paradise. Stone looks into a domestic abuse case, but that sets him on the road to discovering money laundering and the town's dark underbelly. Saul Rubinek (THE CONTENDER), Stephanie March (LAW & ORDER: SVU), and Stephen Baldwin (THE USUAL SUSPECTS) costar.

Variety 9 of 10
No fools over at CBS, the net quickly followed one of last year's best TV movies, "Stone Cold," with this equally first-rate prequel, chronicling L.A. cop Jesse Stone's downhill tumble to become chief in the tiny Massachusetts burg of Paradise. Tom Selleck is again pitch perfect as the world-weary Stone, and any movie where the real romance is between a man and his aging bloodhound can't be all bad. As stated before, the role fits Selleck like an old Hawaiian shirt, auguring periodic trips to Halifax to reprise it...There's real poignancy, too, in his dealings with the rickety old hound, which lends resonance to the dog he adopted in the first movie -- one of several nice little touches for those who saw "Stone Cold." That pic was a surprise hit for CBS last February, proving that a TV movie doesn't necessarily have to be full of bells and whistles to find an audience, especially when blessed with a rock-solid star. - Brian Lowry
