| In 1979, Notre Dame played the University of Houston in that year's Cotton Bowl Classic. Montana's performance in that game is one of the most celebrated of his entire football career. Montana fell ill during the game, received warmed intravenous fluids during halftime, during which he also drank chicken soup, but returned during the fourth quarter. Notre Dame ran their last offensive play with two seconds remaining on the game clock. They scored a touchdown and won the game 35 to 34.
