John Popper's self-titled sophomore solo effort shares a number of commonalities with his solo debut which, in turn, resembled the work he created with his phenomenally successful main outfit, Blues Traveler. Popper's solo albums are quieter and have more of a singer-songwriter aura than the wild, ranging feel of Blues Traveler, yet they still maintain a sense of jammy adventurousness. JOHN POPPER, however, raises the bar in terms of songcraft, and the album's 16 tunes represent the artist's unique writing and singing, and his astounding harp-playing, to fine effect, making it of definite interest to devoted fans of Popper and Blues Traveler.
