The Franchise Collection.
John Wayne remains, without a doubt, a legend of the silver screen and one of Hollywood's most talented and versatile leading men of all time. See "The Duke," with his rugged good looks and undeniable charm, take command of the screen in the amazing collection of five unique films from his long and illustrious film career. This must-own set confirms John Wayne's status as a true American icon! Seven Sinners (1940) Wayne shines as a handsome naval officer who sacrifices everything for the love of a cabaret singer (Marlene Dietrich) with a mysterious past. The Shepherd of the Hills (1941) As part of a family of Ozark moonshiners, Wayne is a simple man sworn to protect the land he loves and a secret that threatens to tear the community apart. Pittsburgh (1942) Wayne stars with Marlene Dietrich and Randolph Scott in this patriotic rags to riches adventure of two coal miners who risk it all to take on the ruthless steel industry. The Conqueror (1955) In one of his most memorable roles, Wayne conquers ferocious armies and the heart of a princess (Susan Hayward) to become the legendary fighter Genghis Khan. Jet Pilot (1957) As heroic Air Force Colonel Jim Shannon, Wayne takes to the skies to save a beautiful Russian lady pilot (Janet Leigh) accused of being a spy.

"[Seven] ...engaging action-love story with excellent supporting cast.  Leonard Maltin's Movie & Video Guide

Editor's Note
Legendary king of westerns John Wayne lights up the screen in the following cinema classics.

SEVEN SINNERS: A sultry singer tries to make a handsome Navy lieutenant forget all about his responsibilities and add him to her collection of men.

THE SHEPHERD OF THE HILLS: When a stranger comes to an isolated mountain village and tempers the rough rage of its inhabitants, one of the mountaineers ("the Duke," that is) is still suspicious of this mysterious interloper--and, not incidentally, still bitter over being deserted as an infant by his father.

PITTSBURGH: Wayne and Scott are coal miners when Dietrich returns to her old neighborhood to help them start their own business. Though she is later spurned by Wayne for a lady of high social standing, the three remain friends and business partners in a young and prosperous America.

THE CONQUEROR: This lavish costume drama, which emphasizes the spectacular and the epic, is loosely based on the life of the Mongol conqueror Genghis Khan. Acts of revenge and clan battles were practically de rigueur in 12th-century China, and no one was better at winning wars and building an empire than the legendary Khan.

JET PILOT: A corps of silver jets soars across the majestic blue American skies while a beautiful lady waits faithfully for her hero in this classic Howard Hughes production.

Ozus' World Movie Reviews 8 of 10
[Shepherd] Henry Hathaway directs this first talkie remake of two prior films versions of The Shepherd of the Hills filmed in 1919 and 1928. It's based on Harold Bell Wright's novel; the writers are Stuart Anthony and Grover Jones...It plays as a Christian parable that relates how kindness can bring love into the world and change things for the better. It's a slow moving film, not the kind the action star Wayne is usually associated with. In its own quiet way it was effective and well-acted, especially by Wayne. - Dennis Schwartz

[ConquerorI am a big fan of epic movies; movies about historical figures that are presented larger than life - Spartacus, El Cid, General Gordon, and the like, but sometimes an epic just doesn't quite come off. An example of this is The Conqueror zillionaire Howard Hughes' next-to-last movie and one that he jealously kept to himself for many years...The thing that is stupefying about The Conqueror is, while so many great films are deteriorated, it is perfectly preserved. The color leaps off the screen and the 2.35:1 imagery is beautifully intact. It's just that it is so wasted on the hijinx that substitute for a credible story of Genghis Khan. - George Chabot
