Iona with guest vocalist Maire (Moya) Brennan of C
Another strongly diverse album from Iona. A solid emphasis on both vocal and instrumental creativity. Guest vocalists include Moya Brennan of Clannad and Robert Fripp of King Crimson. The theme of this CD portrays both personal devotion and universal faith. One of my favorite tracks is "Lindisfarne" which emphasizes again the cultural and historical aspects of Celtic Christianity, the concrete time-and-place, the anchor and substance of the message running throughout. We find both theologically rich hymns and the more mythopoetic poetic imagery. From the beginning, Iona have been known for their Celtic spiritual roots. That spiritual and cultural grounding are evident here. Although both musically and lyrically they explore a broad spectrum, they remain well-grounded in their cultural and spiritual roots. This is their fourth album. It demonstrates a depth and maturity of their art and craft, and makes their uniqueness clearly evident.
