Author Info
Kevin Henkes
Author and illustrator Kevin Henkes had his first book, entitled ALL ALONE, published in 1981 when he was only 19 years old. Since then, he has become an enormously popular author of picture books and novels for middle-grade readers, notably the Newbery Honor Book OLIVE'S OCEAN. Many of Henkes's picture books, such as JULIUS THE BABY OF THE WORLD and LILY'S PURPLE PLASTIC PURSE, feature the character Lily--a feisty white mouse. In 2005, he was awarded the prestigious Caldecott Medal for his charming, duotoned KITTEN'S FIRST FULL MOON. In 2006, he received the Sterling North Legacy Award for Excellence in Children's Literature.
From the Publisher
Editors Note Lilly is convinced that the arrival of her new baby brother is the worst thing that has happened in their house, but she has a change of heart when Cousin Garland comes to visit
Annotation Although she eagerly anticipated his birth, Lilly the mouse is unhappy about the actual arrival of her new baby brother, Julius. Wondering why her parents are making such a fuss over him, Lilly feels jealous and declares Julius "a zero." However, when a cousin arrives for a visit and says some mean things about baby Julius, Lilly instantly comes to his defense and proudly proclaims that Julius is a wonderful baby--the "Baby of the World." Watercolor illustrations accompany the text. Just one of the many popular Lilly books.
First Line Before Julius was born, Lilly was the best big sister in the world.
