Customer Reviews of Kensington Universal Notebook Docking Station with VGA/DVI and Ethernet 4
This is quite a nice plug-n-play port replicator, but its poor handling of the display makes it impossible to recommend. My use case is simple: dock a laptop such that I can use a large monitor and all peripherals using just a single USB port (on the laptop). The Kensington dock should do the rest, but it doesn't. With Windows 7 and an NVIDIA card, I can extend the desktop display across the monitors but with many issues and the NVIDIA control panel does not even see the larger monitor. If I bypass the dock with just a DVI cable, it is all good. So I can only conclude that the dock handles the display poorly.
I ordered this product yesterday around 3pm with 2-3 day shipping, it arrived around 10am today! A+ for shipping. I've only had the unit a few hours, but here is my take on it so far: I took it out of the box and plugged up the power cord, monitor and ethernet cables, and all of my USB peripherals, and that's all it took for me to be completely up and running with everything working perfectly. It took me all of 3 minutes. It works pretty much exactly as stated and does a very good job of it. The only thing that I have found to be an issue is the monitor swap button. I press it, the light blinks, my main monitor blinks, and that's it. Maybe it has something to do with me using 2 different resolutions on my monitors, but who knows. Not a major problem for me though...I have no reason to swap my monitors. And I'm with Bedi, the only thing that could make it better is if it would charge the laptop. All in all, great product at a fair price. Thanks Buy.com!
It was easy to setup and use. All devices works great. The only thing that would make it better would be if it would keep the laptop charged. I have to plug in the power cord to the lap top in addition to the USB from the docking station. Otherwise it is a great unit.
