From the Publisher:
The only way
Detective Alex Cross is one of the first on the scene of the biggest case he's ever been part of. The President's son and daughter have been abducted from their school - an impossible crime, but somehow the kidnapper has done it. Alex does everything he can but is shunted to the fringes of the investigation. Someone powerful doesn't want Cross too close.
To stop Alex Cross
A deadly contagion in the DC water supply threatens to cripple the capital, and Alex sees the looming shape of the most devastating attack the United States has ever experienced. He is already working flat-out on the abduction, and this massive assault pushes Cross completely over the edge.
Is to kill him
With each hour that passes, the chance of finding the children alive diminishes. In an emotional private meeting, the First Lady asks Alex to please save her kids. Even the highest security clearance doesn't get him any closer to the kidnapper - and Alex makes a desperate decision that goes against everything he believes. A full-throttle thriller with unstoppable action, unrestrained emotion, and relentless suspense, Kill Alex Cross is the most gripping Alex Cross novel James Patterson has ever written.
Annotation:
This quick and exciting read is the upteenth book in James Patterson's best-selling series starring D.C.-based detective Alex Cross. Because he works for the police department in our nation's capital, Alex comes across your usual police cases--as well as many of cases involving powerful individuals, both as victims and as perpetrators. This time is no exception: the president's children have been taken hostage. The boy and girl managed to evade the eye of their secret service watchmen and took off on their own, only to be captured by a very sick and twisted individual. Responding to the police call, Alex is one of the first officers to arrive on the scene, but he quickly realizes that his presence is not wanted. High-up individuals in the CIA and the FBI want to keep this case within their jurisdiction. Unwilling to let it go, however, Alex pursues the truth with all he's got.
Author Bio
James Patterson
James Patterson grew up in Newburgh, New York, 50 miles north of New York City. Valedictorian of his class at the Christian Brothers school, St. Patrick's, in 1965, Patterson graduated from Manhattan College with a degree in English. He first entertained the idea of becoming a writer in 1971 when he worked as a college student in a mental institution, a job that afforded him abundant time to read. He came up with the idea for his first novel during that time, and five years later, after 26 rejection slips, his first effort, "The Thomas Berryman Number", appeared in bookstores. Since that time, Patterson has written numerous best-selling thrillers featuring the sensitive, modern-day hero Alex Cross, including "Kiss the Girls", which was made into a major motion picture starring Morgan Freeman.

Praise

"They used to say that 50 million Elvis Presley fans couldn't be wrong, and James Patterson makes 50 million fans look like a good start. He has sold more than 230 million books, and his fans aren't wrong, either. His new thriller . . . provides the perfect example. It's Patterson at the top of his game." - Lisa Scottoline 11/12/2011
