Kingston 128GB SSDNow V Series SATA II 2.5" Solid State Drive, Notebook Bundle - SNV425-S2BN/128GB
|For more than 20 years, users have relied on Kingston Technology to help them save millions by extending the life of existing computers with memory upgrades. Now Kingston® introduces its second-generation SSDNow V Series drive to help organizations of all sizes and consumers enhance the performance of computers with a Serial ATA (SATA) interface and thus extend their lifecycle.
Adding a solid-state drive to a desktop already using a standard hard disk drive is a smart and efficient way to upgrade. Transferring the operating system and applications from the HDD to the SSD allows the solidstate drive to be used as a bootable drive that takes full advantage of the speed of the Flash-based technology. The SSD and the HDD then co-exist to drive optimal performance in the upgraded desktop.
For notebooks, SSDNow drives are a perfect replacement for hard drives, resulting in faster, more reliable performance. Making this change will improve a notebook’s efficiency in a wide range of tasks, from booting up to running the most robust operating system and demanding applications.
SSDNow uses a standard SATA interface but, unlike a regular HDD, SSD is very rugged and built with no moving parts, making it ideal for power users and road warriors who push the limits of their notebooks. Other benefits include reduced power usage, less noise and less heat generation.
SSDNow V Series drives offer performance gains and power consumption reductions at a fraction of the cost of a new system. For added peace of mind, they’re backed by 24/7 tech support, a three-year warranty and legendary Kingston reliability.
I picked this SSD drive up off of one of the Buy.com Promo E-mails and really got a great deal. Although this drive is certainly not the fasted SSD on the planet, it does offer a fair performance jump over a traditional 2.5" 7,200 RPM HDD. I installed this on a Dell Latitude E6410 and have had no problems. The external enclosure is a GREAT bonus that you can use with any 2.5" SATA drive to make it "external". Can't beat this combo for the price!
Not as simple as it sounds10/1/2010
Was a lot more difficult to make this the primary boot drive than I envisioned. It is not quite "just another drive" on your sata ports. After disabling all the auto write type functions to extend the unit life I am still very pleased with the overall performance as the boot drive for Win7. Boot times are well under a minute and I have a substantial number of startup items. Probably 3X faster than the old 7200 RPM sata conventional HDD. This is an I7 powered deskside system(930) with 6 GB of ram and a Raid 5 3X 1TB system.
Fast & Easy to Install (After Help)8/14/2010
The SSD is a real screamer. It perked up my notebook computer just as I hoped. Windows cold start is now about 20 seconds compared to several minutes with the original hard drive. The only problem I had was an old version of the installation disk came with the new SSD drive. Kingston support was easy to get to and they provided a link to download a replacement installation app which worked. The install process is simple and well thought out. Great way to put some spunk in an old computer.
Because the budget is tight for our non-profit I thought that an SSD drive and some extra memory would allow me to hang on to my Toshiba laptop for a couple more years. The drive installed as promised, quickly and easily. The transfer software was flawless - again; worked as advertised. IT took about an hour to transfer the data from my original 40 GB HDD to the 128 GB on the Solid state drive. I popped in two 2 GB memory sticks and the laptop is like a brand new unit. Boot time is much faster and since I travel a lot, I'm more comfortable knowing that there is no Hard drive whirring about a nanosecond away from disaster. Well worth the money!
