Senegalese-born R&B singer Akon returns with the follow-up to his highly acclaimed debut TROUBLE. The talented vocalist shows he's able to juggle a few different R&B styles from seductive love songs ("I Wanna Love You") to deeper dirges of self-reflection ("The Rain") to heartfelt tributes to his homeland ("Mama Africa"). Konvicted also has its share of hardcore hip-hop, with guest appearances from Styles-P and Snoop Dogg; Eminem even checks in on the official club hit, "Smack That."

Artist Overview

Senegal-via-New Jersey rapper/vocalist/producer Akon stormed the hip-hop/R&B world in 2004 with a string of hits that showcased the performer's fresh amalgam of reggae, rap, and contemporary urban styles. A somewhat checkered past and a series of collaborations with the likes of Styles P, Snoop Dogg, and Eminem lent Akon a healthy dose of street cred, while his innate musical ability (he's the son of jazz percussionist Mor Thiam), strong business sense, and ear for a hook made him an instant hitmaker. Akon released his sophomore album, KONVICTED, in 2006.

Over all, I like the album. Akon shows a diverse talent and a strong sense of style. He moves from street stories to R&B ballads easily.
