Author Bio
Julia Alvarez
Like many of her characters, Alvarez emigrated from the Dominican Republic (where her father worked in the underground against Trujillo) to Queens, New York when she was 10 years old. Educated at boarding schools, Middlebury College (B.A. 1971), and Syracuse University (M.F.A.), she has been a traveling poet-in-residence for the state of Kentucky, a teacher, and a poet. Most of her work is about the Latina experience in America, and her novels tend to be written from multiple points-of-view.
