After a brief sojourn into historical fiction, Baldacci is back in the thriller mode. When his FBI Hostage Rescue Team is ambushed, sole survivor Web London has to prove his innocence.

From the Publisher:
Since his astounding debut novel, Absolute Power, David Baldacci has delivered a series of stunning, bestselling thrillers—plunging readers into riveting, fast-paced dramas between the innocent and corrupt, killers and their targets. In his extraordinary new work, Baldacci uses his unsurpassed storytelling skills to explore the essence of survival itself, as a conspiracy of violence surrounds an FBI agent whose fate was to be the...

LAST MAN STANDING

It took ten seconds for Web London to lose everything: his friends, his team, his reputation. Point man of the FBI's super-elite Hostage Rescue Team, Web roared into a blind alley toward a drug dealer's lair, only to meet a high-tech, custom-designed ambush that killed everyone around him. Now coping with the blame-filled words of anguished widows and the suspicions of colleagues, Web tries to put his life back together with the help of his psychiatrist, Dr. Claire Daniels. To do so, he must discover why he was the one man who lived through the ambush—and find the only other person who came out of that alley alive...a ten-year-old boy who has since disappeared.

Web's search leads him from inner-city Washington, D.C., to the rolling hills of Virginia horse country—while people connected to him are violently silenced. Acting on his instincts, Web believes he knows where the killer will strike next. Only this time, he may not survive the attack. LAST MAN STANDING is an explosive psychological thriller about a man desperate to find answers—from the secret terrors he has kept from himself to his unbearable guilt. His fight to save himself and those he cares for will come at a high cost...and threaten everything he has grown to believe in. With vividly realized characters and a breathtaking pace, this is another spellbinding novel from David Baldacci, one of today's best storytellers.

About the Author:
was born in Virginia, in 1960 where I continue to reside. I received a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia. I practiced law for nine years in Washington, D.C., as both a trial and a corporate lawyer.

I have published seven novels-Wish You Well, Absolute Power, Total Control, The Winner, The Simple Truth, Saving Faith Wish You Well and Last Man Standing. I have also published a novella for the Dutch entitled Office Hours, written for Holland's Year 2000 "Month of the Thriller." I was the featured writer for this year's celebration. My works have also been published in the Washington Post, USA Today Magazine, Britain's Tatler Magazine and New Statesman, UVA Lawyer, Italy's Panorama Magazine, and Germany's Welt am Sonntag. I have also authored six original screenplays.

My works have been translated into over thirty languages and sold in more than eighty countries. All of my books have been national and international bestsellers. Over 25 million copies of my books are in print worldwide. Castle Rock entertainment made Absolute Power into a major motion picture starring Clint Eastwood and Gene Hackman. The novel Absolute Power won Britain's prestigious W.H. Smith's Thumping Good Read award for fiction in 1997, and was nominated for a major literary award in Italy. The paperback version of Total Control was a bestselling favorite for the traveling public for over one year, even though it opens with a plane crash. The Winner's sales topped those of my first two novels, no doubt aided by revealing in the novel how to fix the lottery and win a hundred million dollars! The Winner received a starred review in Publishers Weekly. The Simple Truth was the first of my novels in which part of the plot was based upon an actual event. Saving Faith is a novel about how Washington, D.C. really doesn't work, and why so many people are just fine with that. Saving Faith reached number one on the Publishers Weekly national bestseller list. Wish You Well is strongly linked to the background of my maternal family. In researching for this book, I spent countless hours talking with my mother who spent the first seventeen years of her life struggling with life on the "high rock" and learning its lifelong lessons. Wish You Well also received a starred review in Publisher's Weekly.

Last Man Standing is an explosive psychological thriller about Web London, a member of the FBI's elite Hostage Rescue Team, who desperate to find answers-from the secret terrors he has kept from himself to his unbearable guilt. His fight to save himself and those he has grown to care about will come at a high cost& and threaten everything he has come to believe in.

Two of my novels have been published in Readers Digest Select Editions. I am currently working with producers Lee Rich, Karen Spiegel, and Paramount Television on a television mystery series being developed in conjunction with a television series created by two other novelists. I have made many television and radio appearances including The Early Show, The Today Show, CNN, CNNfn, CSPAN, MSNBC, Late Show with Tom Snyder, Fox News, Court TV, BBC, and NPR, and I have been featured in national and international publications. And sit on the boards at the Library of Virginia, the Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities, and Virginia Commonwealth University. I also hold various honorary chairs.

Annotation:
After barely surviving an ambush in which six of his colleagues were killed, FBI agent Web London sets out to find the murderers and bring them to justice. His search for the killers leads him to a dangerous neofascist sect led by one Ernest B. Free.
Author Bio
David Baldacci
It's rare that former presidents Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush agree on anything, but both have publically proclaimed themselves fans of the bestselling novels of David Baldacci. Born (in 1960) and raised in Richmond, Virginia, Baldacci majored in political science at Virginia Commonwealth University before getting his law degree from the University of Virginia. He then practiced law in Washington D.C. for almost a decade, all the while trying to ignite his writing career by submitting short stories to various journals and publishers. After collecting rejection notices for several years, most people would likely surrender their dreams in frustration, but Baldacci decided to dive even deeper into his writing career by penning a novel, which eventually became the instant bestseller ABSOLUTE POWER. This remarkable debut showcases all of the literary stylings and plot elements that Baldacci has become best known for--sharply drawn characters testing their own morality as they become engaged in various levels of political intrigue. Several of his books document the high-stakes adventures of the Camel Club, a group of four political watchdogs who expose and undermine governmental conspiracies. While Baldacci's thrillers have become mainstays on bestseller lists worldwide, he has refused to settle into a niche churning out a formulaic series, instead exploring other genres in his critically-acclaimed books THE CHRISTMAS TRAIN and WISH YOU WELL. He is also a prominent philanthropist and, in 2002, Baldacci and his wife Michelle created the Wish You Well Foundation, a renowned charitable supporter of literacy programs.
