The secure partition feature is a nice feature, however it installs software on the computer to access the secure partition. If you put it on someone else's computer, you will see the software running in the task manager and it will stay there even when you are done..not cool. The size is pretty "chunky" compared to many USB drives but I have not found it to be a major issue.
The most impressive thing is that I found it in the washing machine with no cap on (I absent-mindedly stuck in it a pocket)after I washed a load of laundry. I thought for sure it was toast, but the next morning I stuck it in the computer and it worked!
This jump drive has a real nice capacity size. It's size came in handy a few times. However as someone else described, you need admin rights on your machines, even to access the public portion of the jump drive!!!! I ran into a problem accessing the jump drive at work. However if you do not partition the drive and rename the autoplay.inf file you can access the drive w/o admin rights, but you lose the secure paritions.
I get an error saying I must be an adminstrator to run the software whenever I plug it in. It has an auto-start program that wants to run every time you plug in the device. Included security and partitioning software uses over 4MB of the drive. I am using a company provided laptop, and have verified that I am logged in as a local administrator on the device, but perhaps I am not THE administrator. This seems to be an unneccessary feature of the device. After the error, I can access the non-encryted drive, but have no access to the encrypted drive. I have not repeated things that others have added in their reviews, so look at those for more info (inability to re-allocate with wiping the drives clean, etc.)
I had the 128MB version of this product but decided to uprgade to the 1GB model. It is USB 2.0 and quite fast when transferring files. It's not as "skinny" as some drives but it is pretty rugged and I think it will last many years.
I left this thing in my pants pocket and my wife put it in the washer and dryer. It happened to stay in the pocket during washing and drying. When I missed it, I looked through my pants pockets and found it, and it did not APPEAR damaged. I tried it out, and it still works perfectly. Lucky Me!
I am a Tech for a large corporation. I have used the 256Mb jump drive for over a year and love the ease of use. I just purchased the 1Gb Jump Drive Secure and think it is limited by the need to have to two drive letters (Secure and Public Partitions) if you wish to use the secure feature of the drive. Also you must have administrative rights to be able to display the secure partion (Drive Letter) on the PC you plug into. It is wide which limits access to the back USB ports. On newer PC with front ports not a big factor. The sport jump drive may be a better choice if security is not a factor but back USB access ports only on the PC. You could also use a extesion USB cable to be able to access back port.
Got this last night and just love it
Best deal I have gotten all year
The Secure option makes it nice as you can configure the drive any size you like. Has both public and secure partitions. When you try to open the secure partition it asks you for a password
This is one of the best deals out there right now
Get it you won't be sorry
This product has great value for the buy.com price, is easy to use with great performance because it works just like a regular hard drive on your system when placed in a USB port and is extremely compatible because every computer system has a USB port and all new systems have USB ports on the front of the tower. Hey...if its too big to fit in your USB port area or you only have USB on the back of your system, then buy a USB extension cable...This product is a lifesaver because it represents 1GB of storage on your keychain, it replaces floppy drive storage, replaces compact disc storage, and because of its size, replaces DVD storage. Simple, Sensible, Small and a Great Value
The width of the device makes it dificult to plug into the back of a PC - It'll interfere with the Mouse or Keyboard cables on most ATX form factor motherboards. That is the only drawback to this unit because nothing compares to carrying a gig of data in your pocket. I bought this so I could transport CD images from work to home & back.
If you have USB ports on the back that aren't right next to the Keyboard/Mouse PS/2 connectors or if you have USB ports on the front of your machine then you will have NO problems with this unit.
