Great for the price10/1/2012
This printer is compact and quiet and definitely worth the price. It was more difficult to set up than I anticipated - you really need to CLICK the ink cartridges into the case (to the point I thought I would break it) or it jams in the printer. But once that is done, set up is quick and wireless can't be beat.
Wastes color ink. Look elsewhere...7/11/2012
The S305 uses color ink, even when set to print only in black. All the settings are set to black only, yet all three color cartridges empty at the exact same level, even though no color pictures have been printed. This has occured through at least 3 seperate sets of cartridges. Because of this little "feature", we won't be buying any more Lexmark printers...
As usual, poor quality from Lexmark1/11/2011
I had a Lexmark printer years ago and vowed never to buy another. The price brought me in as I was looking to unchain from my Canon wired printer. Fool me once, shame on you - fool me twice - well, never again and I mean it. Pros- Easy to set up, easy to use. However - Stopped printing three times, ink issues, followed by complete shutdown, printhead needed replacement according to a suspect in his abilities lexmark online tech. I had seen others complain about this issue with this model -but took the chance anyway. Replacement would take at least three business days. Not acceptable for a printer less than 40 days in use. Buy.com was incredibly fast with their shipping, and fabulous about RMA. I would just seriously warn about the product given my experience. I will wait and purchase a Canon - as I have had a very good experience with their products. Wish this would have been better quality as the price was very good - but not for all the work I have already had to put into troubleshooting.
Great Wi Fi All-In-One12/28/2010
The printer works perfectly! It was easy to set up via the software. It takes you step by step for unpacking and hooking up the printer. It is the greatest thing to be able to hook up my 3 computers to print via WiFi now. No wires to contend with and we can print from anywhere in the house. Plus, we love the scanning and copy feature. We can just go to this printer to do every thing we want it to do now. So now we can get rid of our old flatbed sanner. We are very happy with our new buy!
Pros: Depending on when you buy it, this printer can be really cheap. I bought two on separate days for less than $65. Printing is fast and crisp for most purposes. Installation is very easy, including setting it up on a wireless network. All necessary components (USB cable, ink) are included. Ink uses 4 cartridges instead of 2, so you won't have to waste ink if you use one color more than the others. Scanning features are intuitive and fast. Cons: Ships with starter ink cartridges. You will go through the black one very quickly regardless of what you do. I don't print much in color, so it took significantly longer to burn through the color cartridges, but if you print a lot of photos, expect to need replacements in weeks. Ink is also expensive - your first order of replacement cartridges will likely cost you more than the total cost of the printer. Print head gets clogged from time to time, requiring you to tell the printer to deep clean itself. You cannot refill the ink cartridges because of RFID tags on the cartridges. Misc: Don't buy your ink at the same time you buy the printer. Lexmark sells ink directly and their prices are very good. They also have a reward program for both buying and recycling. Overall: If you use a printer for heavy home office work, this printer isn't for you. It's fast, but not that fast and it'll burn through ink like crazy. Get a nice laser printer. If you are printing a lot of hi-res photos, spend the money to get a more sophisticated inkjet printer. If neither of those apply to you, then this is a great choice, both in terms of functionality and value.
