LOVE this printer12/28/2010
This is a great printer. I use it at work, I am a elementary school teacher. This printer is nice. I love having it attached to my computer, can scan and send info to parents. Great printer. BUY IT!
I placed this printer in service on the 10th of June. We have printed, at most, 50 pages since then. In that time, the printer has gone through 3 black ink cartridges and all of the color cartriges. I estimate, that at that rate, I can buy a new printer every three months for the cost to keep this one in ink. It's going in the trash tomorrow!
Good so far, but dry ink6/5/2010
We ordered this printer and like it so far. We have used it about 5 times for black ink, and now it is printed very faded pages. The ink level says almost full so we think it is jut dried up.
Good hardware, so-so software1/12/2010
I've had a Xerox and two Brother MFCs before and this is easiest the best of the lot. It's quiet, fast, produces good looking output, doesn't jam, sips ink and has a terrific feature list including duplex printing. I wish it had the ability to auto receive faxes and store them for review before printing. That's the only thing I miss from my previous MFC and not very important to me but it may be to someone else. It would be better if it remembered your control panel settings for the various functions, but if you don't want the defaults, you have to override them every time. The biggest problem is with the software and hopefully will be fixed in a future update. If you scan from the device control panel and send it to a PC, it ignores the size setting you choose and instead crops off all white margins. So you can't select 8.5x11 (for example) and expect to get the entire page. Instead you get just the used part of the page (e.g. 7x9) with no margins at all. Very annoying; the only way to get the size you want is to do the scan from your PC instead of the MFC control panel. When I said this thing sips ink what I meant was that it does not go thru a lot of ink when you are not using it. We do not use the MFC a lot and the brands we had before (and others I read about) go thru ink very quickly just from frequent automatic head cleaning. I thought the Lexmark could be even worse, because it wakes up when ever a call comes in even though its set to not automatically receive faxes. When it wakes up you can hear the heads move and I expected it to use a lot of ink but I have been very pleasantly surprised. I always suspected the other brands intentionally wasted ink to increase sales but this Lexmark does NOT. Thanks Lexmark. Now go fix the scan size bug when scanning from the control panel! ;-)
