Customer Reviews of LG BD590 Blu-ray Disc Player
I am very happy with this Blu-ray player. I can not say I have a complaint at all. Dvd upscale is great and blu-rays load fast.
Pro: - High quality Blu-ray play - The best player you can get if you do not have Home Theater PC attached to your HDTV, because of the extra features - very easy Wi-Fi, Netflix, Pandora, Picasa, Youtube setup - very easy setup to connect to your home network. It finds right away the shared drives and then you can play everything from there - strait forward play of files on external drive (HDD or Flash) attached via the USB port. - plays everything, this is real DLNA. What is the point of having DLNA on Sony if it does not recognize 95% of all formats. - plays subtitles in different code pages (for foreign language subtitles; if you ever need this). - Firmware upgrade is as simple as possible - just confirm that you want the upgrade and that's it Cons: - Couldn't find any way to play Youtube videos in high definition. This is the major issue so far, hopefully this important feature will be added in future firmware release - While viewing and zooming pictures on Picasa or from an external drive, noticed that the quality is better when I view the same zoomed pictures on my PC (connected to the same HDTV). If you do not zoom the difference in quality is hardly visible. - While playing movies from the home network (in my case - High Def MPEG4 .mkv files) the controls (FF, stop, etc.) do not seem to work well.
Exactly as advertised3/10/2011
Did the firmware update first. Every function worked exactly as advertised. Streams hd files perfectly. Finds all NAS storage. You will not be disappointed. I've used several media streaming devices and this is the best by far....and a blu-ray player too!
Great Blu-Ray Player12/27/2010
This LG BLu-Ray has been great. The picture quality and sound are great. I have it connected to my 7.1 system and it's performed flawlessly. The added features like Netflik and Vudu are very convenient. The interface is easy to navigate. The only cons are that I do not like the flip down door and the tray seems a bit flimsy.
I've had this for only about 2 weeks and it was a breeze to set up. I had Vude, Pandora, etc. set up in about 10 minutes using wireless. It recognized my IP address within a minute. I haven't used it much to really say it is perfect but for what I have used it, it is great. I would recomment it to anyone.
The good: Almost magical upsampling of DVDs. Reads mkv files on DVD data discs. Streams Netflix, etc. well. AVCHD discs are handled flawlessly. The bad. Network only uses 802.11n 2.4. I live in a rowhouse with lots of neighbors using wireless so had my LAN set at 5. So to use my shiny new BD player, I had to dumb down my LAN. The Hard Drive is formatted in FAT 32 which puts a 4 gig limit on files--which makes it pretty much worthless for video files that run from 4.3 to 15 gigs. You CAN put this player on your LAN and it will find whatever folders you want it to find on your mother computer BUT this wireless connection is not fast enough to stream a movie. For that, you need a hard ethernet connection (which ain't gonna happen at our house!)
Very nice movie machine12/14/2010
I am certainly not a techno-geek, but getting the blu ray player up and running was very simple. I hooked up to my Samsung LED HD television and was totally blown away with the quality of the picture. It cannot possibly get better than this. I am now beginning to explore other features and it is one powerful piece of equipment..great product, prompt delivery, super price..thanks buy.com and Adorama
I have had my sights on the BD590 since June. Just waiting for the right price. This player does all that I wanted and installed easily. We love the wireless streaming which works perfectly. DVD playbacks have worked flawlessly. We plan to put our entire CD library on the 250gb hard disk when we upgrade to a new wireless speaker system that will allow us to enjoy our favorite music throughout our home. What a deal for less than $200 delivered and no tax.
Best price on the internet, fast shipping. Great product and lots of features.Remote not so good.Easy to setup the wireless connection.
Its not a BD-390...12/7/2010
Yes this is a great BD player. It has LG's netcast and most important - homelink. However, the codecs on the 390 handled a wider range of video formats. The 250GB HDD is nice, but I dont really have a use for it. The built in wireless b/g/n is nice, but I dont think the wifi can handle 1080p formatted files. In short, if you have a NAS device or plan on getting one and have lots of Ripped BD's or DVD's, this unit offs more than two birds with one stone.
Worth the wait11/14/2010
Having held off getting a player, this LG with all of it's functions- upscaling DVDs and 250 GB of storage at the top- was worth the wait. I searched through reviews and spedifications of many blu-ray players, before deciding on this one; the CNET editor's choice as well. The startup time is fine to me; even though we are in a 'now' world; it doesn't take long, really.
