|Super-Multi NAS N2B1D is a data storage that is attached to a network rather than to a PC. It is perfect for both home and small business users such as doctors and photo studios who need scalable storage solution as they manage a large amount of data such as pictures, documents, video, etc. The storage capacity is drive dependent meaning whatever size hard drives that are available in the markets, you can add two of those hard drives to our NAS.|
What makes N2B1D so unique is that it has a built-in blu-ray burner which serves as an additional back up option where you can store up to 25GB on to a single layer blu-ray disc or up to 50GB on a dual layer disc. This is great because you can quickly copy important data to a blu-ray or DVD discs if you need them on the go or if you want to store important data and store somewhere for a safe keeping. As an added feature, LG NAS also has a built-in four-in-one memory card reader, three USB ports, and eSATA port for adding additional storage devices or connecting mobile devices such as external hard drives and MP3 players. For better Raid Management, LG NAS also offers Selective Mirroring function which allows users to back up selected folders. With this function, it will allow users to increase NAS efficiency and storage capacity.
I've had it for two months now and I have not had any issues. It was very easy to set up, I am using RAID 1 + JBOD with 2 1Tb drives. RAID 1 is for my media files and JBOD is for my document back ups from my desktop and laptops. The web interface is intuitive. It is very quiet; I have it in my living room and I can't even tell it is there.
I have a gigabit wired & 802.11n wireless network in my home with wired connections in every room and have been using my PC to act as my media server until I picked up this bad boy. Easy set up, has an excellent feature set, DLNA, iTunes server, webdev, esata & usb ports, etc,... Now, I am using this a a media server and could not be more pleased. Well, yes I could. If LG would allow the USB & esata ports to be used to expand the capacity of the unit instead of just for rapid backup it would be unbeatable. LG even gives you a domain name that even if you have a dynamic IP, you can access your goodies anywhere you can get on the net. Runs cool & quiet, performs and has tons of features (yes, it does RAID) and the latest firmware update allows for 2 gigabyte drives to be used so you have 4 gigs zipping at network LAN speeds. Cool.
Bad Service and No Quality Control1/7/2011
My box works but when it boots the LCD doesn't display text and the internal fan goes to max speed and then begins oscillating. Getting a hold of LG technical support has been impossible. Look on the net and you'll find several threads where people have posted similar complaints to mine with no resolution. Also, i'm now on my 3rd firmware upgrade without any success. However, the frequency of the firmware upgrades says a lot about internal quality controls

I bought this model because it is the only one with the blu-ray burner at this time. The iTunes server isn't working, I read it is because there is an issue with the latest version of iTunes, so we have to manually add everything. But that is not a big deal to us because we mostly use Rhapsody anyway.
This NAS is very fast. Much better than slow cheap NAS devices. It can be a bit of a bear to setup with drives previously formatted using GUID partition tables. Had to remove the drives and repartition them before they could be recognized. The manual is horrible but other than the GUID table drives I have had very few issues. I have two Seagate 1.5TB drives in the box. Pretty sure any SATA drive will work. The feature list on this NAS is unreal (FTP, Time Capsule, WebDAV / Web Server, AFP support, AD Support, mySQL etc..) especially for the price.
