|LG Super-Multi NAS N2R1DD2 which is a data storage that is attached to a network rather than to a PC. It is perfect for both home and small business users such as doctors and photo studios who need scalable storage solution as they manage a large amount of data such as pictures, documents, video, etc. It comes with two hot swappable hard drive bays where you can install up to 4TB of hard drives. The storage capacity is drive dependent meaning whatever size hard drives that are available in the markets, you can add two of those hard drives to our NAS. Super Multi NAS with Blu-ray Disc ReWriter and HDDs (1TB, 2TB) also available.|
What makes N2R1DD2 so unique is that it has a built-in DVD burner which serves as an additional back up option where you can store up to 4.7GB on to a single layer DVD disc or up to 8.5GB on a dual layer disc. This is great because you can quickly copy important data to a DVD discs if you need them on the go or if you want to store important data and store somewhere for a safe keeping. As an added feature, LG NAS also has a built-in four-in-one memory card reader, three USB ports, and eSATA port for adding additional storage devices or connecting mobile devices such as external hard drives and MP3 players. For better Raid Management, LG NAS also offers Selective Mirroring function which allows users to back up selected folders. With this function, it will allow users to increase NAS efficiency and storage capacity.
The new firmware actually took away a lot of featu6/26/2013
I bought the NAS with two hard drives pre-installed. In the older version of the web console, I was able to configure the drives with RAID-1 + JBOD. However when I upgraded to the new firmware, this was no longer an option.
Not too bad8/31/2011
So far, so good. The unit is doing what I expected it to do but i would like to access it as a network drive without logging into the drive after a cold start of the computer. Either you can't do it or I just haven't found out how to do it yet. Once logged in, it works like a champ.
---AND multi-functional TOO.....7/30/2011
I was undecided on this unit until 'A customer from Great Falls Montana' wrote, "...its shiny; and the front panel grates a fine cheese." From that moment on I was SOLD.....shiny AND multi-functional.....LG's done it again....
This is great NAS and has a built in DVD burner to have another option for backup. Easy setup and had it working in minutes. Backed up my Buffalo Drive and maxtor external hard drive. It is very fast and quiet. DVD burner can be used over the network. Comes with a lot of great software. This is easier than my Buffalo drive. I gave it five stars across the board. I researched for drives for days and read a lot of good things about this drive. I am a big fan of LG products. I have or have owned a 52 inch flat screen tv, front loading washer and dryer, and cell phones. Never had any issue with their products. To ensure fast data sharing and maximum data throughput, the Super-Multi NAS N2R1D includes a gigabit Ethernet connection and three USB 2.0 connections. For maximum flexibility it can be configured for RAID 0, 1, 1+0 and JBOD modes and also allows for hot swapping of hard drives. The N2R1D is compatible with Windows, Linux and Mac computers and networks. It also allows users on different operating systems to share and store data, whether directly connected to the NAS, on a network or over the internet. Overall great product and I am recommending to family and friends. Only complaint that I have is that it is not wireless. This would be the complete package if it had wireless built in. Don't hesitate and buy this LG NAS. You wil be very satisfied.
I love it!12/30/2010
This is a great, straight-forward backup solution. Great price, fully redundant! I can go on and on. Took no time to setup. Using Windows 7 built in backup feature, and have done a couple of restores already without issue. Have recommended this to clients and family.
Easy setup. It seems fast enough, it's well made and it does everything I expected it to. I don't think I'll every use all of the features on this unit but it's nice to know they're there. One negative is that backup software that came with it does not work on my Windows 7 64 bit laptop. I'm using SyncBack to backup my data so that's not a big deal for me.
Great NAS for Backup11/23/2010
This model comes with two 1TB drives. It supports RAID 1 for data-mirroring, but you have to enable it in the web-based configuration (easy). (RAID 0 is enabled out of box.) With RAID 1 I am no longer afraid of data-destructive hard drive failures, and the peace of mind is worth every penny. Also, its shiny; and the front panel grates a fine cheese.
Great backup solution!9/15/2010
Setting up this unit was much easier than I had thought. Granted, I have only set it up on my network and haven't dived into many of its other features. But so far, this unit has done everything I need. I have both computers doing daily backups from the Windows 7 backup utility to 1TB mirrored. I am anxious to understand the full scope of features. Anyways, this is a great unit at a reasonable price.
Perfect for the price.9/1/2010
Ok, so I have been looking for external RAID1 storage for a while. I've tried three different devices and not been happy. Most consumer level NAS devices are not truly fault tolerate as they have proprietary raid and/or they put the raid info on the disk itself and its not auto-detectable. This devices runs linux, which I happen to be an expert and uses metadevices for raid devices. These are auto-detectable so if you pulled both disks out and put into a linux server, and ran mdscan, you'd recover the raid. I've been running this for three days now, with over 300GB used out of 908GB usable (I setup RAID1 of course). With 500gb USB drive on my Dell Hybrid I was only getting 2-4Mb/sec. With this LG NAS device I'm getting 14Mb/sec consistently. I've been able to stream movies to my playstation3. I could not get streaming to work on my Android phone (no biggie). I use microsoft synctoy to backup my files to a backup share which is private and have all my media under media share which is public. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that You can only define ONE DNLA capable share... so you have to put you music and movies under one parent folder.... again, not a big deal. Overall, I'm extremely impressed with overall design and performance of this. 1. QUIET, shockingly quiet 2. It runs cool, fans work well 3. LED display is very nice 4. web admin interface is nice, not great 5. the front flips open and the drives are hot swappable 6. 1GB NIC and write performance is great I cannot speak for MACs, but for Windows and Playstation, it works great. However, it does not work with my HTC Evo, due to browse call not supported on my phone.
Nice but not for a MAC11/30/2009
Beware of this unit! Like many NAS units there are problems with Snow Leopard's AFP mount. Other vendors have new firmware to fix the issue. However, LG doesn't seem to committed to their unit. You cannot even find the firmware on their website. And when you call customer service you get a polite but useless 'drone.' I am very disappointed. :-( Also note that the unit does not appear to have any drive sleep after inactivity or Wake-On-Lan settings. Why a company would produce a NAS without these now is beyond comprehension. Overall, it looks like I am going to have to return this to Buy.com.
