I upgraded to N routers at home, a Cisco-Linksys E3000, and at my office, a Cisco-Linksys E2000, and to take full advantage of the dual band properties of the "n" band in our older computers I needed to install Wireless N adapters. The router installation was easy but the adapter installation was even easier.
I don't know if using a different router would be harder but if you use their "Cisco Connect" software, you can generate a key on a flash-drive. Install the software, plug in the adapter when instructed to and then plug in the flash-drive when instructed to...voila. The adapter can be left plugged into a USB port directly or left on its little stand.
(If you need more flexibility than "Cisco Connect" offers then you can get into the router via your web browser the usual way but for most people that will be unnecessary.)
I have been using this with a Linksys E3000, and performance has been fast and stable. Signal strength is consistently strong. Installation was easy, works seamlessly with Windows 7, and the included USB Extender/Stand makes it simple to position for optimal reception. Only nitpick is the flimsy stand.
After struggling to connect my computer to the internet, I purchased this product to use it with my router. It was so easy to set-up and my internet was working right away. Much easier than the other versions, plus if you do have trouble with it, the instructions are very easy to understand.

The device worked great right out of the box, connecting to our 802.11n network. I'll be able to use this anywhere, and with any operating system. This hardware requires no proprietary drivers with Linux. Support is built in.
