The Linksys Wireless-G Music Bridge lets you bring the digital music streaming to or stored on your computer to your Home Entertainment Center, without running cables through the house. The Wireless-G Music Bridge sits by your home stereo and connects to it using standard consumer electronics cables. Then it connects to your home network by Wireless-G wireless networking, or if you prefer, it can be connected via standard 10/100 Ethernet cabling. The included software creates a virtual sound system in your PC, which sends the audio output of any application to the Music Bridge and the stereo system.
Customer Reviews of Linksys Wireless-G Music Bridge - 1 x RJ-45 10/100Base-TX - Wi-Fi
headline says it all.
Awesome device, used to hook up an xbox 360 to the network. This is my second one of these devices, the other one is hooked up to my stereo.
Works very good and easy to use. It was a little tough getting it set up initially but once the help desk got into it they took care of it. Ever since it's been installed I'v been enjoying music throughout my house.
Works well - no problems6/28/2008
The first thing I did was go to linksys.com and upgraded the firmware to 2.18 (dated 3/12/2008). I also downloaded v1.3 of the setup utility (also dated 3/12/2008) and used that instead of the supplied system. I'm running XP Professional with SP2. The utility worked well and automatically detected and configured the device and installed the driver. Once that finished, I launched the utility from the system tray and connected to the bridge and that was it - all sounds from my laptop were re-routed to my hifi system. Easy!
A great product once the correct firmware version1/2/2008
The is a great product once the correct version of the Firmware is installed. After having trouble with the intial setup, Linksys stated there is a driver that microsoft is no longer supporting in the older version of the firmware. Since I installed the older firmware version from the supplied install disk on my Laptop, Linksys had to help me clean my registry files of the old firmware version. Then I had to download the latest version of the firmware from the Linksys website. Once I did this Music Bridge is working great. Great sound and reliablity. After a while the Music Bridge does get a little warm.
Works great, exactly what I wanted for Satellite R8/10/2007
After reading the other reviews, I was very skeptical about the Music Bridge setup and functionality. I am by no means a "technical wizard", but I had the system up and running in about 20 minutes with very little tweaking. The software install was simple with absolutely none of the issues as reported by other users. The Music Bridge wirelessly sends my online Sirius Satellite stream and Itunes music right to my stereo speakers. It also works just fine wired with an Ethernet cable if you prefer that method. There is one small quirk that I noticed, and that is the switching between my stereo speakers and PC speakers. You must completely exit the application you are listening to in order for the speaker switch to take effect - a minor inconvenience. I am very pleased with this purchase and the Music Bridge works as well as advertised.
Great product - I have two (2)7/20/2007
Works Wired or Wireless. Adds an audio device to config, like another sound card. Not limited to I-Tunes, etc. Many outputs (RCA stereo, 1/8" stereo phone, Coax and Optical surround sound). Defaults IP is 192.168.1.210 (can be changed). Need your computer on same Class-C subnet (192.168.1.xx) to configure. Low rating from others may indicate unstable wireless network or lack of patience while device associates with infrastructure network, or ad-hoc to a computer. If you don't understand wireless networks, get help, meanwhile it also works as a wired device on your network, but not both. Once you configure for wireless, you MUST unplug ethernet cable, and cycle the power to enable the wireless part (not well documented).
HORRIBLE - DON'T BUY - ZERO STARS5/1/2007
It just doesn't work. I paid $100 for it, it literally works 20% of the time. I have been on with Linksys support for a total of about 10 hours over the last 3 months (with an additional 10 hours of my time alone). They have told me TWICE that it must be defective and to exchange it. Which I did. Still the same problems (multiple ones)... after THREE units. They don't return phone calls, don't respond to emails, pass you off to another agent after spending an hour with one, without getting the new agent up to speed. It is just a piece of junk and the support line is total useless bull. Save your money and get an iPod and docking station. Don't even spend a buck on this.
Works as advertised11/13/2006
I had no problems with the music bridge. It works as advertised, took about 10 minutes to setup and the sound quality is very good.
The music bridge is easy to install and works flawlessly with itunes. Highly recommended!
Works Like a Charm9/13/2006
For the money, coundn't be happier. I'm not sure why others said setup was difficult, I followed the instructions to a T and setup took about 10 minutes without a hitch. One exception, the written instructions for some reason say to connect the bridge to your PCs LAN port, which I did, and then had to undo and connect to my router (which was what I originally thought to do, however, I wanted to follow exactly what the instructions asid first). Once connected to the router, setup was a snap. Distance from PC (which is wired to a NetGear router) to the bridge/stereo system is about 30-35 feet through 4-5 walls, and peformance is perfect, no drops. I did have to place the bridge on top of my AV stand, and not within it to get best performance. I imagine there was interference from the metal/glass stand. I connected the bridge to my receiver via optical digital cable and sound quality is very good, not CD-quality, but good for what I intend to use it for, background music, etc. 2 issues to be aware of: (1) analog audio out ports on bridge (red/white) are not able to accept certain higher quality intercoonects. I tried to plug-in AudioQuest G-Snake cables, and they won't fit, had to revert to cheap cables provided. (2) Also, and this is not a problem with the bridge, but if trying to play music from a laptop wirelessly through router, it did drop frequently, so it's best to have your music source hard-wired to your router.
Not the easiest to intall but works great!8/4/2006
I had been using the Dlink Media Server to play the music from my computer on my stereo. It worked but wasnt always reliable, couldnt find the licenses half the time and wasnt really user friendly and kind of clunky. This Linksys Music Bridge solves all those issues. Play it on your computer and it comes out your stereo and it sounds great! The only hurdle is the set up and you will see from various forums on the internet this thing can give you grief when you try to install it. I got the - no bridge found - message over and over. After an hour on the phone with Linksys support I was up and running. When you go to install forget the wizard. Hard wire everything to your router to begin with, computer and bridge. Install the Bridge utility software on your computer (forget the wizard) and then use the web utility to configure the bridge directly (192.168.1.210). Once the Bridge works over the wired connection and you set it to see your wireless network, unhook the wires and enjoy.
Great piece of equipment. This replaces my Line-X usb FM transmitter to pipe iTunes, web radio, etc to my stereo in the living room and patio. Setup didn't initially find the device, but second attempt did. Was dropping sound every minute until I ran LinkSys's troubleshooting tool from their web site that found two wireless drivers competing and defeated one. Now works flawlessly. Switching between PC speakers and WMB54G sometimes takes a minute, but is a minor nuisance. Highly recommend.
This is a great product! It works exactly as advertised. It was extremely simple to setup & configure, it took no more than 15 minutes to get everything working right. I highly recommend this product if you're just looking to extend your the music collection on your computer to a stereo in another room wirelessly.
I love this product!3/21/2006
I just purchased and installed your new WMB54g wireless Music Bridge. I must say this was the easiest piece of hardware I have ever configured. I use my laptop to play my Itunes library stored on a removable hard drive attached to my Desktop. The wireless bridge is attached to a full home Audio system with speakers in 8 rooms in my home. I was fully expecting to have major problems with configuration. I had none. I installed the bridge to my Desktop. I was confused as to how to configure my laptop. I tried to do the same install on my laptop as the desktop required and stopped halfway through as it appeared my bridge and the utility SW was installed. Linksys should create more documentation on how to configure different types of networks. Mine worked perfect but frankly I am in the dark as to how my laptop got configured. Linksys does have 24/7 support that is usually pretty good At any rate I am in my kitchen typing this note as The ITunes on my laptop is playing music stored on my desktop through an entire home audio system controlled in my master bedroom. The quality of the music output is great. I LOVE IT! Shaun
Does not work well2/19/2006
The WMB54G music bridge is very difficult to set up. And has a tendancy to quit working. It draws a lot of current (2.5A) and gets warm. Operating a Microwave oven totally kills the music. I do not recommend this device to anyone.
Not Exactly Plug & Play, But Worth It2/6/2006
This unit took more than one try to enable but once I got past several "device not found" and a few more wireless "search not successful" messages, it finally worked, without doing anything more than choosing the "try again" button over and over. It took me an hour to install and probably should have taken 15 minutes. I am not a network pro but I am usually able to complete tasks like this without help. Don't plan on doing this install in a hurry on a bad day, but if you want to listen to your PC audio on your stereo wirelessly, this device is worth the effort. I am streaming internet radio from a laptop to my home stereo and it sounds perfect.
