|The Ultra RangePlus Wireless-N Broadband Router is really three devices in one box. First, there's the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect to the network without wires. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together. Finally, the Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection.
The Access Point built into the Router uses the very latest wireless networking technology: Wireless-N (draft 802.11n). By overlaying the signals of multiple radios, Wireless-N's "Multiple In, Multiple Out" (MIMO) technology multiplies the effective data rate. Unlike ordinary wireless networking technologies that are confused by signal reflections, MIMO actually uses these reflections to increase the range and reduce "dead spots" in the wireless coverage area. The robust signal travels farther, maintaining wireless connections much farther than standard Wireless-G.
With Wireless-N, the farther away you are, the more speed advantage you get. It works great with standard Wireless-G and -B equipment, but when both ends of the wireless link are Wireless-N, the router can increase the throughput even more by using twice as much radio band, yielding speeds far faster than standard Wireless-G. But unlike other speed-enhanced technologies, Wireless-N can dynamically enable this double-speed mode for Wireless-N devices, while still connecting to other wireless devices at their respective fastest speeds. In congested areas, the "good neighbor" mode ensures that the Router checks for other wireless devices in the area before gobbling up the radio band.
To help protect your data and privacy, the Router can encode all wireless transmissions with industrial-strength 256-bit encryption. It can serve as your network's DHCP Server, has a powerful SPI firewall to protect your PCs against intruders and most known Internet attacks, and supports VPN pass-through. Configuration is a snap with the web browser-based configuration utility.
The incredible speed of Wireless-N makes it ideal for media-centric applications like streaming video, gaming, and Voice over IP telephony, and gives you plenty of headroom to run multiple media-intense data streams through the network at the same time, with no degradation in performance. With the Linksys Wireless-N Broadband Router at the center of your home or office network, you can share a high-speed Internet connection, files, printers, and multi-player games, and run media-intensive applications at incredible speeds, without the hassle of stringing wires!
Customer Reviews of Linksys WRT160N Ultra RangePlus Wireless-N Broadband Router, Refurbished
very easy to install, good signal and very stable
Keeps getting restarted11/30/2012
I got this item few days ago !!!. It keeps getting restarted. I tried many settings but it didn't work. I setup this many times ( 10 times). But it still keeps getting restarting. So I don't recommend this. Very dissatisfied with this.
Router works great, easy to set up9/22/2012
This router works very well, and was a snap to set up. No complaints.
Just got it but I like it!8/6/2012
I received my order, I installed it and it is working fine. Had a bit of difficulty with the auto install on the disk. Once I logged into the router I was able to set it up easily. After 20 minutes I was surfing the internet from both wired computers and my wireless connected laptop!
Great Bang 4 Bucks...8/1/2012
Wireless modem looks nicely and works decently. The item is great for an average size house. Few blemishes, however not really noticeable. No Manual was included.
Refurbished item looks brand new. Easy install, great software package included with this linksys router. I was up and running again in no time.
After three attempts to get this thing to work, I threw it in the trash. Being persistent, I got it out and tried again. None of the computers in my house can log on wireless. It does work hard-wired. Back in the trash. Not worth the effort to return.
I plugged this in and set it up to my custom settings. Worked great! Great product at a very good price.
Great router. Easy to set up and secure.7/17/2012
Works great. Signal is strong throughout my house.
good one to use7/16/2012
easy to setup and use. the CD provided along with it helps a lot in setting up the device.
Easy in some parts- not so in others7/11/2012
Had to go look for the setup instructions- even though the CD worked great- the unit sees both my computers but doesn't hold wireless connections to printers- still struggling to get it to pass info back and forth
Good value for refurbished item7/9/2012
The installation CD couldn't detect the router. But I can detect the network gateway using ipconfig command, then go to the gateway's ip address on my browser to access the admin site. From there, I upgraded the firmware without a problem. When I set the Admin site to only use https, it became no longer accessible and I had to reset to manufacturer's default. Everything else has been working since.
DO not worry about refurbished word7/9/2012
the unit is refurbished but works and looks like new..perfect router for my 2 story house..long range
The wireless router worked beautifully and was brand new, as stated. I would definitely order again.
Worked for 5 Months before dying7/4/2012
Router stopped working after 5 Months.... I guess it was good while it lasted... will not buy refurbished again, if I can help it.
Little black box7/2/2012
It came in the condition that was promised I had ordered "refurbished" and had low expectations, but this router really shined
great value for the money I spent. Works great.. No complaints
If you don't need to connect wirelessly then this6/30/2011
I continually have connection issues, and the strength of signal is much MUCH lower than the Linksys Router it replaced. I also had to update the firmware right out of the box to get the router to work somewhat correctly. The box it comes it says Cisco will back this purchase, but that was False. This was a mistake of a purchase, and has caused me to look to different companies for my Wireless Router Needs. DO NOT BUY!
Works great, but ease of set-up?6/6/2011
5 bars, 24/7... Can't ask for more than that. But, I wasted an hour of my life with set-up because of issues I've never had with any other router... If you have WOW, you cannot use the driver disc or online driver download to make your wireless connection. You have to go to the Linksys signed IP address (so your computer has to have a hardwire connection at this point), and do it there. Again, never had this issue with Comcast or ATT; only WOW. Great router however!
I really like this router. It works really well w/ my laptop and my son's ps3. I really recommend it you have multiple computers in your home.
Great with dd-wrt firmware12/1/2010
Reading other reviews I gathered that this is a great piece of hardware but gives very disappointing performance with the Linksys firmware originally installed. The first thing I did out of the box was download and install dd-wrt (not difficult but I downgraded the ease of use score for this). I am now receiving the full internet speed I have been paying for all along (my old router only delivered half of it). The range is very good and most impressively, I have not had to restart the router once in the two weeks I have been using it.
Not easy to set up10/26/2010
The router came without any firmware installed and the setup disk did not work at all. I downloaded the firmware from Linksys and installed it manually and set up the router manually. Most home users would find this daunting, or at least irritating. It has performed well since, but this would not be for the novice to install.
Best deal I've gotten in a long time!10/22/2010
I love this router. It was a breeze to set up - pretty much did the setup all by itself, very little intervention required. It also has much better range than my previous router - granted that previous router was 2 or 3 yrs old - but I was still very happy. There is a button on top to connect other wireless devices, but I haven't really figure out that works yet. Didn't have any problems connecting wirelessly using my laptop or my DROID. Great buy!
The Router is not working properly10/2/2010
The product is a faulty one. It has a very weak signal strength. Am thinking to return it, but the seller's customer service are on leave and won't be back by 4th Oct. I had to buy a new router and waiting to get this one returned. But I don't know how to return the item.
Delivery was fast and the router was in perfect condition. Once installed, which was quick and easy, the router works great. No problems to speak of.
Works well for setting up a 2nd network.9/20/2010
I have this router connected to a LINKSYS Wireless G router (WRT54G)3 floors above mine at work. I ran a cable from one of the ethernet ports on the Wireless G router down a cable shaft and into my office and connected it to the internet port on this Wireless N router. It didn't work at first but once I called Cisco tech support and they talked me thru the setup changes and IP addressing it worked great. I can get a signal through sheet metal and several inches of concrete to the floors above and below mine. It works great for WiFi access for my iphone4 which can't receive a signal on 3G in my office. I also use an apple powerbook G4 and it gets a great signal from this router on its airport (802.G)card. My router is the version 3 and has fireware dated Nov 2009 which I haven't missed with. It has worked great so far 2 weeks and counting. No resets or lockups.
Absolutely crappy range in my small house.9/12/2010
This was an easy to set up router with a nice user interface. I just could not play games on-line with my xbox 360 which is just 30-40 ft. away in the next room (wood frame house). My old WRT54G worked way better than this and it was two rooms away with three walls in the way. I returned it and ended up getting a Netgear N router which works a lot better with my mixed G and N network. A friend of mine (network administrator) later informed me that he would have told me not to get any Linksys products due to crappy antenna engineering and performance.
Very short range8/21/2010
The router set up easily and worked well with one major drawback...its range was very short. I will use it as an access point as my 4 year old pre-N router has much better range even though the speed is slower than this unit. In summary, great router that was easy to set up and run, HOWEVER, the broadcast range was very disappointing.
Excellent product ... with DD-WRT firmware5/1/2010
I've had this refurbished router for about a week. At first everything seemed to be going smoothly with the included Linksys firmware but after a couple days I started noticing problems: speed wasn't great, signal strength was only around 80% (disappointing after my old WRT54G2 always had a signal near 100%), and my connection was dropped a couple times. So I followed what seemed to be the online consensus and replaced the default firmware with firmware from DD-WRT. The install process actually wasn't as confusing as the "peac*ck thread" made it out to be, but I do recommend reading everything to make sure you understand what you're doing. Now my connection is fast, strong, and stable. Bottom line: A great deal if you're willing to flash your firmware to a third-party option.
Good Value for Money3/26/2010
I received this router yesterday and within no time I was able to set it up with no issues. I have one Windows 7 laptop and one XP and both are running without any issues. I was little hesitant to buy this refurbish router but so far there are no issue....I'm hoping it will continue function the same way.
Review is for 'working' products2/27/2010
Bought this as a first trial of using 'refurbished' item in my life and am really disappointed! The product actually doesn't works at all. I am not sure why they even bother to market it (maybe for the shipping company sake!) This lights on this product did start glowing right away out-of-the-box (one point in Ease of Use) and when I tried connecting to the wireless network Linksys (default) it got connected without any hassle (One point in Ease of use). Finally, when I connected the Internet cable onto the router, the link started establishing stable connection (one more point in Ease of use). That's it! Tried opening a website and nothing came up! Easy setup. Fast2/19/2010
This router was very easy to setup. Opened the box and setup in a matter of 10 mins.
Refurb works Great2/18/2010
I have had no issues at all with this refurbished router. It works very good. Another great product from Linksys.
Dont hesitate to buy this because it is refurbished. I purchased it, it arrived in brand new condition, setup was a snap, and it works flawlessly. Some reviews on other sites state that the refurb product crashes constantly and requires frequent reboots, not the case with the one i received. Granted our house is small with only a few rooms, but I have not any problems with connectivity or range, even in the back yard.
Product was very easy to set up and use. I usually stay away from refurbished products but I really lucked out with this one.
Awesome value. Works great. Looks very sexy next to my 46' LCD. Refurbished items is a way to go.
Very pleased with purchase12/28/2009
Great value, cannot tell the difference from new. Set it to a mode compatible (WEP) with the old Linksys G router I was replacing, and all but one device (PC laptops, Mac, iPhone, iPod Touch, Xbox wireless extender, Wii, Kodak wireless frame, 2 Linksys wireless bridges) were able to transfer to the new router without additional work. Only my wireless N enabled netbook needed a special setting. I really like the Easylink Advisor that shows a graphic of all devices that are connected to the router.
Very fast setup on a Mac12/21/2009
Quick and painless setup on my macs. Amazing range on my iPod touch. Great value. We'll see how it hold up in time.
Burned up before I could try it!11/1/2009
I read many reviews on this router and looked like a good one. A new one might still be really good. I bought a refurbished model to save a few bucks and hooked up the wires and power cord. Everything seemed to be working properly until it just died. When I tried to reset it I noticed it smelled like an electrical short. Time in use: 6 min approx. If you are considering this model opt for new, refurbished computer equippment just isn't worth the risk.
Fairly easy setup and works exceptionally well. No problems with the refurbished item after two months.
The refurbished unit looked and worked better than expected. It was perfect is in all respects. It was impossible to tell it was refurbished. I would recommend this to everyone.
