My daughter loves it

by Isain Zapata on 3/22/2007

This is a good Disney movie that was a great hit when it came out in the 90's. The new material includes an short movie named the "Little match girl" which is a very sad story about a poor orphan girl in Russia. When we were watching it for the first time we were amazed on how sad it was. My daughter is 4 years old and she loves this movie so much as she watches it over and over. She even likes to change the audio to the other languages to critique how well it sounds. Read More

Plot Summary
Summary THE LITTLE MERMAID is Disney's animated version of the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale about a mermaid who falls in love with a handsome prince whom she rescues from drowning. Disobeying her father, lord of a great sea kingdom, the mermaid makes a deal with an evil enchantress. In exchange for a pair of legs, the mermaid must sacrifice her exquisite voice to the witch, who, unbeknownst to the mermaid, uses it to beguile the prince into marrying her.

Review Despite revitalizing Disney's fortunes and introducing the present wave of big-screen cartoons, The Little Mermaid was not a groundbreaking motion picture, although it was the first animated movie to so thoroughly incorporate songs into the narrative. With big production numbers like "Under the Sea" and "Kiss the Girl", and several other hummable melodies, the film makers did their best to create the cartoon equivalent of a musical...The Little Mermaid boasts a particularly strong vocal cast...Jodi Benson gives Ariel a clear, beautiful voice and a delightfully silvery laugh; Pat Carroll brings Ursula to life with sultry gusto...For ninety minutes of pure escapism, it's difficult to beat The Little Mermaid.

Review Walt Disney's "The Little Mermaid" is a jolly and inventive animated fantasy - a movie that's so creative and so much fun it deserves comparison with the best Disney work of the past...What's best about "The Little Mermaid" is the visual invention with which the adventures are drawn. There is a lightness and a freedom about the settings...The colors are bright, the water sparkles with reflected light, and there is the sense that not a single frame has been compromised because of the cost of animation..."The Little Mermaid" has music and laughter and visual delight for everyone.
