The author of this story was a remarkable woman. She was my great grandmother, and her name was Simmie Staley. She was a full-blood Cherokee Indian, and she never cut her hair. I remember my mom fixing her hair for her and it reaching all the way to her ankles. Grandma Simmie never learned to read or write but always had the most wonderful stories that she told. I only wish we had written all of them down. Hopefully with Little Tommie, she will be remembered for the wonderful story teller that she was.
