I now have three Keith Urban CD's, and this one is my favorite. If you're looking for a true "country" sound, this isn't it, but the great blend of rock and country in this CD is just what I really like. I have shifted back to rock more in the past couple of years, but an album like this one will keep me listening to the country genre. Bravo, Keith Urban!

This is the first Keith Urban CD I have purchased and it makes me want to go out and buy the others! This CD is absolutely awesome with some beautiful songs. I have listened to it numerous times since I bought it and I enjoy it every time. He has a gorgeous voice and puts so much feeling into every song. I love all of the songs, but my favorite has to be "I Told You So".....

Product Overview

Grammy Award winner and reigning Country Music Association (CMA) Entertainer of the Year Keith Urban has completed the follow-up to his nearly four times platinum third album Be Here. Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing (Capitol Records Nashville) contains thirteen brand new tracks and is one of the most anticipated releases of the year. The album showcases Urban’s consummate songwriting and vocal talents, as well as his searing guitar work.

Co-produced by Dann Huff and Urban, Love, Pain & the whole crazy thing, includes “Once In A Lifetime,” (John Shanks, Keith Urban) the album’s first single, which upon its release last month became the highest debuting single since the inception of the Billboard Chart. Highlights of Love, Pain & the whole crazy thing include the bold, contagious rockers “Faster Car” (Urban) and “I Told You So” (Urban). Songs such as “Shine” and “Used to the Pain” exhibit Urban’s ability to produce infectious melodies that patiently build to a musical climax. While brilliant songs such as “Stupid Boy,” “I Can’t Stop Lovin’ You” and “God Made Woman,” an anthemic tribute to women, all show Urban’s ability to select and interpret songs written by others.

Said Urban of Love, Pain & the whole crazy thing; "It’s just an accurate reflection of where I’m at now. I think it’s the sound of being happy and extremely excited with the music that we’re making.”

The fair-haired Aussie who came across the pond with guitar in hand to show Nashville how it's done, Keith Urban became a country music phenomenon in the early 2000s. Like his contemporary Brad Paisley, Urban combined songs with a broad-based appeal and fiery fretboard skills to gain a wide audience. LOVE, PAIN & THE WHOLE CRAZY THING finds Urban refining his approach ever further, to achieve the perfect marriage of pop, rock, and country.
Electronic-sounding beats, soaring string arrangements, and searing lead guitar mesh seamlessly with banjo, steel guitar, and mandolin throughout the album. The amalgamation of '70s/'80s widescreen pop-rock a la Elton John and Bryan Adams with contemporary country sounds surprisingly natural here. From the airborne "Shine" to the down-and-dirty "Raise the Barn" (with a guest turn from Brooks & Dunn's Ronnie Dunn), Urban never falters. Whether the reason lies chiefly in his guy-next-door persona, hook-heavy songcraft, or instrumental deftness, LOVE, PAIN has platinum written all over it.
Artist Overview
In 1997, Australian country artist Keith Urban based himself in Nashville. Live shows with his band, the Ranch, featuring his standout guitar playing, led to a record deal with Capitol Nashville. The group's debut album, The Ranch, was released to critical acclaim in 1997, but they soon broke up, and other artists -- including Garth Brooks and the Dixie Chicks -- called on Urban to play on their albums. Ten years on, Urban was doing to Nashville what he'd done to Tamworth, Australia's country music capital, with a string of successful solo records that included Golden Road, Be Here, and Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing. ~ Ed Nimmervoll
