Author Bio
Bernard Waber
Bernard Waber will be forever immortalized as the creator of lovable Lyle the Crocodile. Raised during the Depression, Waber and his family moved frequently during his childhood, making the public library one of the few constants in his life. After serving in World War II, he attended the Philadelphia College of Art where he received a degree in commercial art. After graduation, he moved to New York City where he worked in the promotion department of Conde Nast, the publisher of several magazines. Waber began writing and illustrating picture books after discovering how much he loved reading aloud to and sharing stories with his own children. His first book, LORENZO, was published in 1961. The wonderfully reassuring and helpful character Lyle the Crocodile first appeared in THE HOUSE ON EAST 88TH STREET in 1962.
